What are some of the empirical trends that lead them to this conclusion? 2. Please explain social identity theory as Hornsey, Tajfel and Tuner defined it. In your response please make sure to explain self -categorization. 3. In class we discussed the cause s and driv ers of terrorism, w hat are the two perspectives on human behavior tha t were identified in the readings and how does each explain terrorism? Part II: Long Essay ( 12.5 points) In more than 750 words, please a nswer the following question fully. I strongly recomme nd that you outline your essay fi rst. This semester, we've read a great deal of theory and research that seeks to answer a critical question: Why does violent global conflict happen? One major approach to this question is Paul Collier and his co -authors' political economic explanation of why civil war happens in their book Breaking the Conflict Trap. A second major approach groups together protracted social conflict theory, as discussed in yo ur textbook, and the theory of horizontal inequalities propose d by Frances Stewart. First, defi ne each approach's answer to the question of why conflict occurs. Second, compare their theories. How do these two approaches diff er in their explanation of the origins of conflict in today's world? How are they similar?
