In this assignment, you will choose a recently published scholarly article from your Annotated Bibliography and adapt it (rewrite it) for a public audience. This assignment consists of five steps: Sum

Hendi, A. S., & Ho, J. Y. (2021). Immigration and improvements in American life expectancy. SSM-Population Health15, 100914. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2352827321001890

According to the author, as people move to the US from other countries, they expect to find good jobs, housing, education, and government services. However, few authors have evaluated the role of immigration in the US immigrant's life expectancy. Due to the better quality of life in the US, immigration increases the life expectancy of men and women by 1.4 and 1.5 years, respectively. This resource is significant for understanding how the lives of immigrants change gradually after they come to a new nation. Despite the negative aspects of immigration, it has improved quality of services and life expectancy for numerous people.

This article talks about how immigrations help the life expectancy of Americans, it seems to be a research article in which they use records from different data centers and community surveys. They made sure that they used data that is well suited for this analysis, for example Medicare data would not have the records for people who are ineligible for it. Therefore, undocumented immigrants would not be included in those which is why they went deeper into their research to make sure they get information on all immigrants whether documented or not. However, the language used is very professional and at times using words that are not very common which I plan on changing in my discipline project.

The structure is pretty straight forward where it starts with an introduction and then they mention the data they collected and what methods they used to collect that data. They end with showing what the results are and discussing the results in detail. I plan on using language that is more understandable to a majority of people. I think if I change the audience to migrants specifically, I think it will have a positive impact and a nice approach towards them as they will read about something good that they are contributing to. A lot of the times there is a negative energy around the word “immigrants’ or “migrants”. Therefore, if this article is directed towards migrants themselves that will be a nice gesture towards the topic.
