Abstract:

A qualitative study using ethnographic methods to study the processes related to addressing social and structural issues in the New York City region. I engaged with “Hour Children” a non-profit volunteer organization as a participant observer. I spent six hours working with administrators, volunteers and clients/those in need/recipients distributing food. The experience was enjoyable and empowering and provides a much-needed service.

Hypothesis:

Looking at the social issue, what did you think you would find?

For example:

Is investment (personally, publicly, federally) in social support systems worthwhile?

Will experience live up to prior negative interactions with volunteers?
