Introduction

Hello, everyone! My name is Cynthia Carter, and I currently reside in Columbia, Maryland. I'm excited to participate in this course and look forward to getting to know my peers and instructor better.

Characteristics of a Healthy Person

The top three attributes that spring to me when I think of a healthy person are physical fitness, mental well-being, and a well-balanced diet. These components are essential for general health and contribute to an individual's vitality and longevity.

Factors Contributing to Good Health

Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and proper sleep are all aspects that contribute to good health. A healthy diet supplies critical nutrients for body processes, while exercise helps preserve physical fitness (Zavitsanou & Drigas, 2021). Quality sleep promotes both mental and physical renewal.

Factors Contributing to Ill Health

Poor food choices, a lack of physical exercise, and exposure to environmental pollutants are all factors that contribute to poor health. Unhealthy eating habits may lead to a variety of illnesses, and a sedentary lifestyle raises the risk of obesity and associated ailments. Toxins in the environment may impair the body's systems and cause sickness.

Social and Biological Factors

Poor food choices and a lack of physical exercise are mostly social variables among the ones outlined above. Cultural standards, peer pressure, and access to health services often impact these habits (National Research Council, 2013). On the other hand, exposure to environmental toxins is a biological factor since it directly affects the body's physiological functions.

Takeaway from the First Graduate Readiness Module

From the first Graduate Readiness Module titled "The Research Process - Reading a Scholarly Article," I gained valuable insights into how to assess and understand academic research critically. This module emphasized the importance of analyzing scholarly articles effectively, which will undoubtedly enhance my research skills throughout the course.

Takeaway from the Second Graduate Readiness Module

In the second Graduate Readiness Module, "Your Academic Village - Citing and Quoting," I learned about proper citation and quoting techniques. This knowledge is crucial for maintaining academic integrity and accurately referencing sources in my research and assignments. Additionally, this module emphasized the importance of avoiding plagiarism and gave me practical strategies to avoid unintentional academic misconduct. Understanding how to cite and quote sources correctly not only enhances the credibility of my work but also demonstrates respect for the intellectual property of others, making me a more responsible and ethical scholar.

How the Four Modules Will Help in the Curriculum

The four modules I viewed in MPH601 and MPH602, which include "The Research Process - Reading a Scholarly Article" and "Your Academic Village - Citing and Quoting," will be instrumental in my academic journey. They have equipped me with essential skills in research, citation, and understanding scholarly articles, which are foundational for success in this graduate program. These skills will enable me to engage with course materials effectively and contribute to meaningful discussions in the MPH Learning Community.
