  1. Production Management

  • Some say labor efficiency and productivity are the same thing. Others say that labor efficiency is doing the same with less, and productivity is doing more with the same. What do you think? Why? 150 words

My name is Robert Kalarsarinis and I live in California in a small town called Apple Valley. I am currently working for a Water District as the Customer service manager in a city called Rancho Cucamonga. My future goals are to complete my bachelor’s degree and possibly move on to obtain my masters. I have two more classes to finish to complete my bachelor’s degree.

I think that labor efficiency and productivity are related but represent different meanings. The difference between the two is the difference in the quality and quantity of the work performed. Productivity relates to a certain amount of output as it relates to time. Efficiency is defined as doing things right and in a timely manner. They have different meanings but can work hand in hand towards a productive outcome.

  • Respond to Bobby

Hello. My name is Bobby Tennison. I am working on a degree in EMS management. I live in Pocahontas, Arkansas. I have been a paramedic for 20 years and in EMS for 24. I currently work at ProMed Ambulance as the education coordinator.

The decision I chose to share is part of my current job. I offer several classes each year for the EMTs and paramedics so they can obtain the required continuing education hours to recertify every two years. I require the students to sit in as much of a class as possible if they are on shift while the course is in session. I had a paramedic who came into class for about thirty minutes on the morning of the first day of class. He left for a run that was only about twenty minutes long. This paramedic never came back to class that day or the next day. He thought that all he had to do was sign the roster, and he would receive sixteen hours for the entire class. I did not give this paramedic any credit for the course because he did not try to attend the class. This decision caused the young paramedic to go to another site and pay to participate in the class because he needed the required hours. I understand this was an unexpected expense for this person. Still, I refuse to give anyone credit for a course they did not feel that I give everyone a fair opportunity to receive credit for the classes by working with them around runs if they are on shift, allowing them to come in another day to make up hours missed.
