For this project, you will work in groups of three or four. You will choose your group members. There are three separate parts to this assignment – the project plan, the paper, and the presentation.

Project Overview

With your group, find a problem that you would encounter in the workplace. This problem can be anything, and you must find three possible solutions to the problem. If your group only has three people, you must only find two solutions.

  • Secondary research is required for the essay.

  • You can use secondary research in the plan, but a separate reference page is not required.

  • A reference page is required for the essay.

  • One group member must email each section of the project to [email protected] by midnight of the due date. Please have the same group member email each time.

    • Please copy all group members in each email.

    • Please attach as a Word file.

Project Plan – Due October 29

This is the outline of your project.

  • Identify your group members.

  • Identify problem

    • Provide a brief description of the problem and why it is a problem in the workplace.

    • You can use bullet points to provide additional details.

  • Identify possible solutions

    • Provide a brief description of each of the possible solutions your group has identified.

    • These should be concrete ways that you are going to attempt to solve the problem.

  • No recommendation is required at this stage.

Paper/Essay – Due November 17

This is your group’s opportunity to elaborate on the plan and provide details on the problem and solutions.

  • You must follow APA style.

    • Please refer to one of the following resources for support on using APA style.

      • CBU Writing Centre

      • Purdue OWL

  • Remember the 80/20 rule – 80% of what you write must be your own ideas. Use the remaining 20% to provide support for your ideas using secondary research.

  • You must include a cover page and references page, as outlined in the APA style guides.

Group Presentation – In class November 21 & 28

Each group will present its problem and solutions to the class.

  • The presentation should be no more than 12 minutes (3 minutes per person). You will be timed and cut off after your group reaches 12 minutes.

  • You must submit a PowerPoint presentation by email on November 20. Every group is required to submit by this deadline, even if they do not have the chance to present until November 28.

  • Your presentation must contain no more than six slides.

    • Title, one slide per group member (problem and solutions), and conclusion.

  • Please ensure your slides can be understood easily.

Tips for a successful group project

  • Be respectful of the time you must spend with your group members.

  • Utilize Teams or another form of messaging software to connect with your group, share files, and edit group documents.

  • Assign group roles and stick to the assignments.

  • Rehearse your presentation in person with your group.

  • Provide constructive feedback to your group members and be open to receiving constructive feedback.

  • Use your communication skills to work efficiently and effectively as a group.

  • Use the resources available to enhance your group effort – CBU Writing Centre, etc.

  • Do not rely on ChatGPT or other AI software to write your essay for you. Do your own work.

  • Become familiar with CBU’s Academic Integrity Policy, as outlined in the course syllabus.
