Checklist for completing a Chapter Review

1)Download the Chapter Review Notes Format in Word and file or store on Desktop

2)Note the theme of your chapters:

Chapter 1-2 Theme: Feedback- The communication link between teacher and students that provides students of an
awareness of what they should be learning and how they are doing.
Chapter 3-6 Theme: Content –The lesson progression which allows the student to move from an initial understanding of
content to application of content
Chapter 7-10 Theme: Context- Meeting student needs in order to learn including engagement, create a sense of belonging,
and high expectations.

3) Find the Design Question for your Chapter or Chapters and fill it in on the format.

Note: The Design Question is your GPS for the Chapter , and it is ALWAYS listed for you as the first sentence of the Planning Section of each chapter. See page 33 in Chapter 3.

4) Now …read through the ELEMENTS in each chapter and choose at least 2 that you relate to your class or field. Look on your format. The ELEMENTS are the categories of strategies for that design question. Write in the Element…copy it.

5) Now… Choose one strategy for each ELEMENT that you would like to use to achieve that goal.

For example: In chapter 3, under Element 7 , Processing Content, I choose the strategy called Think-Pair- Share. Page 31 Chapter 3

6) Now….Add a line that says: How I will use it……

7) Now ….go to the right side column and list some learning behaviors of this strategy. Where ? They are ALWAYS listed as bullet points right after the graphic for your Element. See page 32 for Chapter 3 , Element 7 Processing Content behaviors and COPY 1-2 of them : These are researched based results

Students appear to be actively interacting with the content.

Students volunteer predictions.

Add commentary to the Chapter Review Reflection about what you learned from the chapter or chapters and from assigned resources in Learning Resources that relate to the chapter.

Does not have to be long….just concise.
