Rusheda,

Tell me about a time when you made a mistake. What was the situation and how did you respond?

A time where I made a mistake at my job as a med tech is when I misread a doctor's order and administered the wrong medication to a patient. Upon realizing the mistake, I as the technician immediately notified the nurse / the director, apologized to the patient, and documented the error. The nurse/ the director was promptly informed, and they took immediate corrective actions. The patient was closely monitored for any adverse effects, and additional safety measures were implemented to prevent similar incidents. As the technician I participated in a debriefing session to understand the root cause of the mistake and underwent additional training to prevent such errors in the future. Open communication and a commitment to patient safety guided the response to the mistake.

In the interview question and the answer that I provided, the selling points revolve around the me as the med tech commitment to accountability, communication, and continuous improvement. The key selling points include:

1. Responsibility and Accountability: I immediately took ownership of the mistake, reported it promptly, and documented the error. This demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility, crucial in healthcare settings.

2. Effective Communication: I communicated the mistake to the nurse and the medical team swiftly. This highlights the importance of transparent communication in ensuring patient safety and collaborating with the healthcare team.

Tomas,

In my current role, collaboration with my boss on onsite projects is a regular occurrence. However, this collaboration has not been without its challenges, particularly in how feedback is delivered. During a project meeting, my boss called me out for not knowing the names of some top managers on the project within the organization. Feeling a mix of frustration and embarrassment, I decided to address the issue directly.

After the meeting, I sought a private conversation with my boss to discuss the impact of his feedback on my morale and productivity. I conveyed my appreciation for feedback but emphasized the importance of delivering it in a manner that fosters a positive learning environment. Additionally, I expressed my discomfort with being put on the spot and suggested alternative methods for addressing gaps in my knowledge.

This situation allowed me to showcase several important skills. Firstly, I demonstrated effective communication skills by initiating a respectful dialogue with my boss to address interpersonal issues. Secondly, I advocated for the importance of constructive feedback delivery, highlighting my commitment to creating a supportive work environment conducive to growth and development. Lastly, I exhibited assertiveness in setting boundaries and advocating for my needs within the professional setting, showcasing my ability to navigate challenging situations effectively.
