Please respond to one discussion post. Instructions: Consider your peer’s response to social media presence that supports a professional brand. Discuss whether you have a similar social media presence

Isabella,

  • Describe one element of your social media presence that you can use to support the brand you want your potential employers to see. How does this element demonstrate the elements of P.R.I.C.E or some soft skills? Support your response with at least one external resource.

I have an additional account that is utilized to share poetry that I write. The work I propose is meant to be uplifting and positive. I collaborate with other writers and also engage in a very caring and motivational environment. This demonstrates caring regarding the P.R.I.C.E model, as well as creativity, a soft skill. It also shows that professionalism is present in terms of writing - “...improving your writing helps you become a better communicator…” (“The Importance of…” 2021).

  • Describe one element of your social media presence that could negatively affect the impression potential employers have of you (your brand). How does this element impair your goal to present yourself as a professional?

I do not feel that I present negative material on my social media. However, some things that could be present on someone’s social media that would negatively impair their presence would be “...aggressive behavior, sexually explicit material, and confidential information…” (Cotriss, 2023). This can make a potential employee appear irresponsible, unreliable, and far from professional.

  • Describe two tasks you can perform to strengthen and/or improve your brand using social media. Support your response with at least one external resource.

Task one: Present social media as an online business card (Gibbings, 2022).

  • How it would help: This can help expand one’s business network and strengthen visibility.

  • Barriers: One would have to be very cautious about what they post to maintain a professional atmosphere that draws employers in.

Task two: Create social media content that is positive and appealing to specific businesses or employers with whom you want to connect (Gibbings, 2022).

  • How it would help: If your social media presence aligns with the values of the company, you are more likely to be pursued further instead of looked over.

  • Barriers: All of your values may not necessarily align with the company, making this difficult. However, one could just highlight the values that align with them.

Tomas,

In considering my presence on social media, particularly LinkedIn, I strive to uphold the principles of the P.R.I.C.E. Model - Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Caring, and Engagement (Herzing University, n.d.). One element of my social media presence that supports this brand is my consistent engagement with industry-related content. By actively participating in discussions, sharing relevant articles, and offering valuable insights, I demonstrate professionalism and contribute positively to my professional community.

However, one potential element of my social media presence that could negatively affect the impression potential employers have of me is the association with controversial or unprofessional content. This could undermine my goal of presenting myself as a professional and may lead employers to question my integrity and suitability for their organization.

To strengthen and improve my brand using social media, I can focus on two specific tasks:

  1. Content Curation and Creation: I can enhance my brand by consistently curating and creating high-quality content relevant to my industry or area of expertise. This involves sharing insightful articles, creating original posts, and engaging with thought leaders in my field. By positioning myself as a knowledgeable contributor, I can attract potential employers who value expertise and professionalism (Herzing University, n.d.). Completing this task would help me in my job search activities by increasing my visibility and credibility among recruiters and hiring managers. However, potential barriers to completing this task may include the need for ongoing research and time commitment to maintain relevance and consistency.

  2. Professional Networking: Engaging in professional networking activities on LinkedIn, such as connecting with industry peers, participating in relevant groups and discussions, and attending virtual networking events, can significantly strengthen my brand (LinkedIn, n.d.). Building and nurturing relationships within my professional network not only expands opportunities for mentorship and collaboration but also enhances my credibility and visibility within the industry. Completing this task would bolster my job search activities by increasing my chances of discovering job opportunities and receiving referrals. However, anticipated barriers to completing this task may include overcoming introversion or discomfort with networking and initiating and sustaining meaningful connections in a virtual environment.
