Find a new research study ( primary article ) conducted in the last 2-3 years that relates to a topic covered in this class . These studies should relate to topics that were covered too briefly for your liking or that you found lacking in some way or that could be added to with newer information . Some examples of “being lacking” include (but are not limited to): • Was my explanation outdated? o For example, stating “we don’t know how X works” but recent research has an explanation. • Did my explanation fail to account for all groups? o For example, sex differences as a binary rather than a spectrum or WEIRD samples that don’t account for other demographics. • Did my explanation leave you thinking, “But, what about X?” and you found an answer? The first page of your assignment should be an APA formatted title page following the guidelines for a student paper. The second page of the assignment should be a quote of the entire abstract for the paper, including proper APA in -text citations for a block of text being quoted. If your abstract goes over one page, that is fine and will not be included in the page count. Just start your summary on the next full page. The third and fourth page s (and fifth page, if you need it) are where you will address the following: 1. Your selected topic • Briefly explain the topic you chose and how it was discussed in the course . o You do not need to cite the course content itself for this assignment. If you mention something from our class, I will assume it comes from our textbook or our slides. 2. What you found lacking • What was missing from the course discussion? 3. How your paper relates • What did the study find in relation to the gap in the course content? • Does the study support or refute our discussion? • What extra information does it provide? 4. Critical evaluation • Critically evaluate the study. • Were the methods sound? Was their sample representative? Are the researchers’ claims valid? • What limitations does the study have? What could they have done better? You may include section headings if you choose, but you do not have to. As long as it is clear which of the four sections you’re discussing, that is sufficient. Your final page will be an APA -formatted References page. Sections 3 and 4 should be where you spend the most time and make up about 2/3 of your paper.
