Data Mining Project Using RapidMiner Software

Final Project Grading

This class has been an introduction to data analysis, and the tools used to assist in the analysis for decision making. For the final project, please determine the focus of your project and create the analysis to explain your findings. Create a professional PowerPoint presentation. It would be preferable if you found your own data to support your analysis tasks.

Create a professional analysis of the data. If the data set is broad, focus on one area to provide a professional business presentation. Your presentation will include screen shots of your dashboard, and summary information such as charts, statistical results from Rapidminer or any other tools analysis included.

Sources must be professional sources and cited correctly. If you are in doubt as to the credibility and accuracy of an article, don’t use it. Sites such as scribd, docstoc, etc. are not to be used. Your project must be in-depth and not a “fluff piece”.

Your sources could be company or government examples, research articles, textbooks, whitepapers from companies, etc. Each team have 5 members, and give a 10-15 minutes presentation. This presentation must be rehearsed and each member needs to speak. A member cannot speak for over 20% (5 members team) of the presentation. The presentation will be ended if it runs over 15 minutes. Therefore, if you find a team member speaking for too long, it is your responsibility to cut the person short so the presentation can be completed.

These slides will be on the desktop ready for your presentation. No changes can be made for your class presentation after this time. Also, the signed signature page will be handed in at the beginning of class on the day of your presentation. In addition to the PowerPoints, your Rapidminer process file and/ or Excel files used in your analysis need to be uploaded.

Details of grading criteria:

You are to develop a 20-30 professional Power Point slide presentation. Utilize the notes portion (see Notes Page under the View tab of the Power Point slide presentation) of the Power Point Slides for areas that require further explanation. The notes section is used for details of your analysis or work.  Use the actual slide for the major points ---do not use full sentences in this area (slide).

When you utilize the notes section you are limited to the power point slide at the top and the information below.  All extra information about a particular slide must fit on the 8.5 by 11 portrait version of the notes page for a particular slide.

This assignment stresses organizing thoughts in the appropriate hierarchy and sequence, selecting words for their power and expressiveness, using technical terms in appropriate contexts, and representing complex data and symbols precisely in prose. This assignment requires the use of appropriate business language--do not use slang, unprofessional language, colloquialisms, etc.

Peer evaluation:

Each group member will evaluate each member (except self) performance in the project. The score is based on 10 points and will work as the weight to your group score. For example, your group got 100 points, and your peer evaluation score is 6. Then your final project score is 100x(6/10)=60.
