  • Response to Micheal

Hello my name is Michael Mirra and I'm a Firefighter/Paramedic with Palm Beach County Fire Rescue in our Special Operations battalion. I am currently finishing my Bachelors degree in Fire Administration, I am looking to join the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team and advance in my career as I continuously learn. The topic I chose is increasing and upholding physical fitness standards throughout the career of a firefighter or if there is no standard then to create one. This pertains to my career as I'm sure all firefighters could see how lack of fitness standards can not only hinder a department but civilians as well.

  1. Health information principles and practice

  • Relating to the health care system, what are your thoughts about the growing influence of computers and information technology (IT)? Do you feel that patients' privacy is protected enough, or do you feel that it is too easy for patients' confidential health information to be stolen? Explain your response.

  • Response to Ashley

Hello everyone, my name is Ashley. I live in Meridian Mississippi with my husband and 3 sons. I am an LPN of 10 years and I currently work for a home health agency as a scheduling specialist/ PCMA. My future goals are to obtain my bachelor's in healthcare administration and further my career at my current company by working my way up administration ladder.

I believe that just like with anything new, there is always going to be good and bad to come with it. When it comes to computers and IT in the health care industry it really does have great advantages such as decreases errors such as medication mistakes, missed diagnosis, earlier detection of diseases and much more. Then on the other hand it does run the risk of staff of patient identity theft from system hacks, yes, we will always have the best kind of security possible but there will always be the chance of this happening and it is very scary because it can cause so much trauma and damage to a individual. I think every company should make sure they are following protocols and running system checks faithfully to prevent this from possibly happening.

  • Response to Terry

Hi, my name is Terry Mills, I live in the Northwest corner of the state of Georgia, which is less than 30 minutes travel distance of the Alabama State line to the West as well as The Tennessee State line to the North. I am currently the Deputy Fire Chief for the Calhoun Fire Department which is also the town me and my wife reside in. I have been in the Fire Service for 31 years moving up through the ranks of the department over the years to my current rank of, Deputy Chief. I recently decided to start back to college to compete my degree that I started 40 years ago but never finished. I am seeking a Fire Science degree to further my education in the Fire Service. The courses required for me to complete that degree have been challenging, and interesting as I have been out of school for quite some time.

Where I live in the Northwest Georgia, it is the foothills of the Blueridge Mountain chain that stretches all the way up the East Coast. This is the starting point of the famous Appalachian trail system that begins here in Georgia, and ends in Maine. This area is a Temperate Deciduous Forest area comprised mostly of heavily wooded, and hilly land as it is the foothills to the Appalachian Mountain Range. Hardwood broadleaf trees, would be the most dominant of tree species, with pine needleleaf trees, being the second most dominant tree species. This makes for some very colorful leaves as they change colors in the fall just before dropping off for the winter. Sightseeing road trips into the mountains to see the colorful leaf changing is a very popular tourist event during the fall months. There is an abundance of various types of wildlife to include, deer, turkey, bear, fox, coyote, and many more forest animals. The climate is an ever changing event, as we can have temperature changes that vary by as much as 40 degrees from the start of a week, to the end of a week, depending on what season of the year we are in. Winters are usually fairly mild but we do have occasional snowfall, and accumulation of snow. The spring is one of those seasons where temperatures can drastically vary from week to week. Summers can be really hot and dry with temperature's consistently in the 90,s and occasionally exceeding 100 degrees. Fall is our most pleasant season with temperatures usually in the 70,s for daytime temps. This area like many across the country, is however starting to change as more people are moving to this less populated area to escape living in the congested urban areas of the state. That is causing many of the forest to be cut down and the small areas of farm land to be consumed to make way for housing developments.

I am aware this college has strict rules about using AI content in your work. As outlined in your introductory message you will submit our work to several AI detection platforms to check for content. If Ai content is found it may be further submitted to the Center for Student Integrity, for further examination of the content. Students will be given a zero if it is determined that AI content is part of our work and a grade of zero will be given for that work. This could also result in being dismissed from the class.

  1. Macroeconomis

  • Accounting argues that opportunity costs should not be considered when evaluating alternatives. Economics believes that opportunity costs should always be considered. With which of these statements do you agree? Why?

  • Response to Susie

My name is Susie Crews and I’m enrolled in my second year here at Columbia Southern University. I grew up in Selma, Alabama but spent the majority of my adulthood here in Montgomery, Alabama. During the pandemic while I had free time available to me, I decided to return to school to obtain my degree in general business which I’d like to start my own publishing company with once I receive it. I believe that opportunity cost should always be considered to give as accurate of an analysis as possible and to allow for a more intricate decision making.

  1. Organization communication

  • The purpose of this discussion board is to encourage reading, writing, and interaction with your fellow students. The classroom can be a place where students come together to read content-related items and to discuss what the readings mean. Therefore, you should think of these discussion boards as a place for that interaction.

Below is a question to get you started. The idea is that you will find new ways to respond and react to the reading assignments.

Andrew Fastow, the former chief financial officer (CFO) of Enron who was convicted of wire and securities fraud, explains that the culture of an organization starts with the behavior of the top executives. Employees do not follow empty rhetoric though: Employees imitate the behavior and decision-making processes of top management (Useem, 2016). Based on what you have learned in this unit, do you believe this is an accurate statement? How big of an effect can empty rhetoric have on organizational behavior?

  • Response Emeric

Hello everyone! I am happy to be part of this class. I live in Boston, Massachusetts.

The assertion is totally true, as words alone will not inspire workers to act ethically. Leadership should not merely issue directives to staff but should also exemplify the company's principles in all that they do. It is impossible for management to impose its moral standards on employees when it engages in unethical activity itself. In the modern day, getting workers to do what management wants them to do requires a combination of inspiration and motivation. The upper echelons of management do, in fact, set the tone for the entire company's culture by modeling appropriate behavior for workers at all levels. When leaders in an organization act ethically, they set a good example for their employees to follow and can rein in those who act unethically.

I am Jazmin, but everyone calls me Jaz. I am 25 years old and live in South Carolina. My current employment is the United States Army being an AIT Instructor. My future goal is to finish my degree and pursue a Bachelor's. I also want to build a house and start a family. It allows many different ways of “ help “ features to get the answer. Overall the resources will help me especially since I’m getting more attentive with math.

  1. Project Management

  • Consider a project in your career in which you were involved. It may be a formally chartered project or work that could be defined as a project but carried out informally. Consider the project requirements and what requirements may have missed the mark. What, in your opinion, could have been done better?

  • Response to Catlin

Good morning Class,

My name is Catlin, I am currently in the process of moving from South Carolina where I am the Chief of HR for a military hospital to Texas where I am going to be a writer/developer for the medical school. I am taking this class as I am finishing up my masters program. Being a veteran and still working for the Army project management is a demanding field needed and I look forward to learning and exploring more in this class.

In my HR career, I was involved in a project to improve the employee performance evaluation process within my unit. The project aimed to streamline the evaluation system, make it more transparent and aligned with organizational goals, and improve employee engagement and development. While the project had clear objectives and requirements outlined, there were certain aspects that missed the mark or could have been improved. In hindsight, addressing these areas could have resulted in a more successful and sustainable implementation of the new performance evaluation process. Moving forward, I would emphasize the importance of comprehensive command engagement, effective communication, training and support, measurement and feedback mechanisms, and leveraging technology in similar HR projects.

  1. Human Resource Management Methods

  • Equal employment opportunity and subsequent discrimination are major factors in today’s workplace. For a quick review, you can access the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's Discrimination by Type webpage to review discrimination by type. Considering the many types of employment discrimination, share which discrimination law you believe is the most important. Explain your rationale. Initial post to be a minimum of 500 words.

  • Respond to Sandy

My name is Sandy, and I currently reside in Brooklyn, NY. I have worked as a supervisor at the New York Public Library (NYPL) for the past 24 years. I am currently pursuing an MBA (Master of Business Administration) with a focus on finance. My objective is to transition into the Human Resources department at NYPL.

The management area places great importance on the role that excellent communication plays. Practical experience greatly enhances one's comprehension of this ability, which is critical for positions in management. These kinds of encounters are essential to the process of developing one's leadership skills, both during a master's program and later in one's professional life. It gives people the skills they need to successfully negotiate challenging organizational situations and intricate interpersonal connections.

Equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination are essential foundations that impact an organization's ethical and operational frameworks in today's varied workplace. Numerous significant laws govern these ideas, ensuring the preservation of an equitable workplace. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which forbids discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, and national origin, is the most significant of these. This legislation establishes the foundation for later anti-discrimination laws and regulations, in addition to addressing numerous forms of workplace injustice.

Title VII is significant in ways that go beyond its immediate legal application. It sets a precedent for equality in the law, which is crucial for fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace. The law supports a just and equal workplace where each employee has the chance to succeed. Consequently, the law lessens bias and fosters a culture that respects and encourages diversity. Such a culture has a significant positive impact on employee satisfaction, teamwork, and organizational creativity.

For those who choose to go further into the details and subtleties of employment law, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission offers a helpful place to start. The commission provides a thorough summary of the many aspects of employment discrimination regulations, including in-depth talks on Title VII, on its "Discrimination by Type" webpage. Anyone looking to better comprehend and negotiate the complexities of employment law will find this knowledge to be quite helpful.

The creation of an equity standard under Title VII has been essential in creating an atmosphere that promotes achievement for all workers, regardless of their backgrounds. It is essential to continue efforts to guarantee workplace equity and create welcoming environments that are advantageous to all parties.

We cannot overstate the significance of this legislation, as it serves as the cornerstone of American efforts to eradicate workplace discrimination. It highlights the continuous fight for gender equity in the workforce and the development of welcoming workplaces that foster personal growth.

In summary, having real-world management experience improves comprehension of effective communication, which is essential for leadership. Furthermore, promoting an inclusive, equitable, and prosperous workplace necessitates knowledge of and adherence to legislation, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The website of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission provides a thorough examination of these laws, as well as important information on the many forms of discrimination and the legal protections put in place to prevent them.
