Choose five common drugs to present to the class, identifying their chemical name, generic name, and trade name, plus their pharmacologic and therapeutic classifications. Discuss how the Affordable Healthcare Act (ACA) has changed the process of prescribing of medication.

Therapeutics and Pharmacotherapy

Discuss five different examples of therapeutics and pharmacotherapy and how they maintain a healthy lifestyle or prevent disease or prevent complications of the disease.

Comparing Efficacy and Potency

  • Compare the efficacy and potency of furosemide and hydrochlorothiazide. Discuss your findings. OR

  • Compare the efficacy and potency of morphine, heroin, and Demerol. Discuss your findings.

Drug Attachment

  • Explain to the other students what happens when a drug attaches to a receptor in the cellular plasma membrane. OR

  • Explain what happens when a drug attaches to an intracellular molecule.
