Create an outline for the death penalty. Example is attached

  1. Introduction

    1. Introduce topics and why they are of importance

      1. Death penalty

      2. Officer involved shootings

  2. Body

    1. Death penalty

      1. Is it an issue/problem/policy?

        1. Not enough follow through, once incarceration has been implemented.

        2. High amounts of money wasted on “easier” deaths; when bullets are cheap and quick.

      2. Is it a combination thereof?

        1. These are issues as they are points or matters that need to be disputed and fixed accordingly.

      3. Changes that can be implemented.

        1. Implementation of the 365 day rule.

          1. 365 day rule (for dummies) is from the time of sentencing - a serious offender has 365 days to potentially turn their case. After 365 days their sentence is sealed and the death penalty is activated that day.

        2. There are other possibilities that could be implemented. However, they are less effective than the 365 day rule.

      4. How are the changes valid

        1. It would give those innocent the time, clear their name.

        2. It would remove overcrowding in the prison system.

        3. It would, also, limit the time a guilty prisoner would spend in prison, therefore better tax/fund allocation.

      5. What is my desired outcome

        1. Desired outcome would be to have criminals punished for their crimes and not the taxpayers who have to support them for “X” amount of years.

        2. Clear cut rules on what crimes have the death penalty as a punishment with time tables.

    2. Officer involved shootings

      1. Is it an issue/problem/policy?

        1. Officers are being punished for following policies.

        2. Officers in life threatening situations are being blamed for surviving.

      2. Is it a combination thereof?

        1. This is a mix of issue and policy. Officers are following protocols and policies, then being punished for it. It is an ongoing issue for officers to be blamed for surviving, when the situation becomes a matter of life and death .

      3. Changes that can be implemented.

        1. Better psychological training.

        2. Use of suppressive fire as opposed to immediate kill shots.

        3. Reading and analyzing the situation accordingly.

      4. How are the changes valid

        1. Better training can help to not have officers who are victimized or harmed mentally in serious situations.

        2. Using suppressive fire, or better yet knockout gas/tear gas could be beneficial as the situation can be de-escalated without death except in extreme circumstances.

        3. Reading a dangerous situation and being able to assess a situation can help in handling and de-escalating the situation with little to know deaths.

      5. What is my desired outcome

        1. My desired outcome would be to have officers better equipped to not only do their jobs, but also to not be blamed for using their training to do their job. The majority of the cops out there are not just out to kill people. Their job demands that they might have to make that decision, it is not a choice.
