The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill (2010)
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico would be an excellent example of a topic to apply the crisis decision-making theoretical framework because it is one of the largest spillages that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico, affecting the environment, economy, and public safety. This calamity gave rise to the largest marine oil spill to occur in history; it obviously had a significant impact, especially on marine life and other coastal areas (Incardona & Scholz, 2018). The response included the decisions that altered the environment and futures of the communities through containment and cleanup operations. Studying this crisis can give us a better understanding of disasters with large-scale environments and the decision-making process that can either widen the problem or narrow down the damage.
