Case Study: Shadow IT Management Strategies
The goal of this project is to examine and assess how one company handles shadow IT, the pros, drawbacks, and effects of this practice on the administration of information systems and the efficiency of daily operations.
Setting the Scene:
The term "shadow IT" describes the practice of managing IT projects outside of the traditional IT department's purview and in secret. With the proliferation of cloud computing and software as a service (SaaS) application, this trend has gained momentum, posing new problems and possibilities for businesses.
Pick a company to find out more about. A public corporation, an employer (current or past), or a case with sufficient documentation could fit this description. Make sure you're well-informed on the company's IT and shadow IT policies and procedures.
Investigation: Learn as much as you can about the company you've chosen by looking into:
How common and what kind of shadow IT is in the company.
The formal IT policy and governance frameworks of the company.
Historical incidents or issues linked to shadow IT.
Analysis:
Discuss how the company's shadow IT department policies took shape.
Identify the organization-specific dangers and advantages of shadow IT.
Address how the company plans to handle shadow IT management, including rules, procedures, and strategies.
Analyze the company's shadow IT management tactics and draw conclusions on how well they worked. Think about:
Compliance with IT governance standards and company strategy.
Concerns with data security and regulatory compliance are part of risk management.
Innovation and adaptability in opposition to command and control and uniformity.
Ideas for improvement: Your investigation should lead you to suggest ways that the company might enhance its shadow IT management.
Also comment on:
Alterations to policies.
Adjustments to the IT governance framework.
Methods for finding the sweet spot between taking risks and being innovative.
