ASSESSMENT

Your final grade for this course will consist of three parts: 50% for a research essay, 30% for a book review, and 20% for participation and contribution in class.

The Research Essay will be on one of the topics named below and will be no less than 10 pages (double space, 12pt). There is no maximum length. I will give you a short account of what I might be looking for with each of these topics. You MUST each make an individual appointment with me before the end of September to discuss your paper and you are encouraged to talk to me about it as it develops also. Our conversation could include your suggestions for a topic of your own.

On November 11th you will make a presentation of your essay to the class.

The essay itself will be due COB on December 13th.

The Book Review will be a 5-8 page discussion of one of the books from the Book Shelf below. I will give you a short gloss on each of the books to help you decide which one you’d like to tackle. It will be due COB on December 13th

The Participation and Contribution part of the grade will bespeak my sense of those things, and I will be sure to let you know during the semester if I feel you are in danger of getting less than an A range grade for this portion!
