  • Please answer both questions as listed below.

Other than reimbursement, discuss the benefits of medical coding in the health care industry. How can organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), use coding data to improve public health? Your response must be at least 100 words in length.

Outline the steps in ICD-10-CM coding to include the use of the Index to Diseases and Injuries and the Tabular List of Diseases and Injuries. In what ways do these tools add to the level of specificity in medical coding? Your response must be at least 100 words in length.

  • Indicate the difference between gram-positive bacteria and gram-negative bacteria. Detail why this is important.

  • For this journal submission, you will integrate a reflection from your own life experiences with a synthesis of this unit’s material.


Begin your journal by explaining in your own words, the process of respiration. Illustrate your explanation with an example (other than smoking) from your own experience (or someone you are familiar with) of any limitations or hazards that can negatively affect this process.


Next, identify major lung diseases caused by smoking. Explain how these same diseases can also be caused by second-hand smoke in a non-smoker. Offer an example of how smoking has directly or indirectly affected the health of you or someone you know.


Finally, we have learned nicotine has deleterious effects on the heart. What are those effects and what can be done about them? Do you believe vaping poses the same concerns? Explain and support your rationale.
