Personal Analysis of the GCU Code of Conduct and Academic Standards

As a university institution, Grand Canyon University has set the GCU Code of Conduct and Academic Standards to enhance discipline products. Cheating is another one of the violation of the academic integrity other than plagiarism; that is, using prohibited materials and or assistance during tests or assignments. For example, if a student is writing a closed-book exam and he/she uses a hidden note or is using a cellphone this is cheating. Code of conduct violation on the other hand, could be conduct that interrupts learning process of other students as well as faculty members. Such standards are in place so as to help support a fair and courteous academic community for all.

Cheating is a form of fraud whereby one passes off words or ideas as his or her own when in actual sense they belong to another person. Some students may plagiarize due to their lack of punctuality or due to ignorance about different rules about citation or they may be in pressure due to score good marks. It is very common from this idea that some sort of tricks are needed to get by and this discredits the learning process and the credibility of their education.

Students should use time carefully so that they avoid cheatings, use right format when using other sources, resource centers for writing or even plagiarism searches. Thus, dishonest practices in work can better be prevented if in group work vocal communication of expectations and necessary responsibilities takes place. For example, providing each team member with a list of particular tasks to conduct helps to prevent copying and sharing content from other people.

In Christianity, integrity is more than just being of good moral character but more so for God. Applying professional accountability also involves making sure one and other students adhere to the academic integrity policy of GCU through the principles of modeling the right behavior required in a learning institution, making sure to correct the mistakes of other individuals when in GCU as well as promoting integrity among all individuals within the compound. Maintaining aspects of truth and being responsible corresponds with the biblical directions, which helps to encourage the proper way of living a Christian life and positively treat others. This way not only trust is developed but also trust-based community grounded in ethical ideas is strengthened.
