There's DQ questions and a response to each one.

  1. Health Information

  • Part I: Introduce yourself to your classmates with your name, location, current employment, and future goals.

Part II: There are times when a patient may feel that he or she is not receiving quality care. Have you or a family member ever experienced less-than-satisfactory care at a medical facility? Regardless, how could this have been avoided based on the guidelines covered in this unit? As you respond to your peers, discuss additional ways that their situation could have been avoided based on what you have learned in this unit.

  • Response to Amanda

Part 1: My name is Amanda. I am currently employed by a public school system in a small town in Northeastern Oklahoma. My long-term career objective is to explore and pursue opportunities that align with my expertise and enable me to enhance my earning potential.

Part 2: I have never experienced a problem at the doctor, nor do I know anyone who has; however, avoiding unsatisfactory medical care requires a vigorous framework of ethical principles, legal mandates, and professional conduct. Ethically, prioritizing patient autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, justice, and accuracy is fundamental to quality care. Adherence to patients' rights to informed consent, acting in their best interests, avoiding harm, ensuring impartial access, and maintaining truthfulness are all critically important. Legally, upholding both implied and explicit contracts establishes a standard of care. Facilities should provide a reasonable level of service, and thorough documentation is essential to demonstrate this. Moreover, strict HIPAA compliance safeguards patient privacy and security, while proper release of information protocols ensure patient consent and accuracy. Bioethics offers guidance in navigating complex medical situations and considering the broader societal implications of healthcare decisions. Finally, professional medical etiquette, emphasizing respectful and empathetic communication and patient dignity, fosters a positive and trustworthy atmosphere. By integrating these elements, medical facilities can cultivate a culture of high quality care, minimizing the likelihood of negative patient experiences.

  • Response to Jada

Hello everyone, my name is Summer, and I currently reside in South Dakota, though I’m originally from Missouri. Over the past eight years, I have worked in the wireless industry, which is how my journey with CSU began. Initially, I pursued a business degree at CSU; however, I soon realized that my true passion lay elsewhere and that's when my medical coding journey begun.

I am a recently engaged mother to a teenage son, and we share our home with three dogs and a gecko. As a family, we love to travel and make it a point to explore different states during our summer vacations, always choosing to drive so we can bring our dogs along for the journey.

  1. Professional Communication

  • Part I: Introduce yourself to your classmates with your name, location, current employment, and future goals.

Part II: Many communication styles and personality type quizzes exist including Myers-Briggs, Merrill-Reid, and What Color Is Your Brain? Complete the free Big Five Personality Test.

Next, review your Personality Trait Scores for openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism (OCEAN). This part of the test is free. No further information is needed.

Save your results by copying and pasting your OCEAN results into a Word document (or print them).

Finally, summarize your results, and discuss how you would work with someone who is the opposite communication or personality style. Provide a specific example to support your ideas.

  • Response to Jacob

Part 1: Hello, my name is Jacob Brett. I currently live in Charleston, South Carolina, and work as a driver and operator at Joint Base Charleston Fire Department. My goals for the near future are to complete my degree this year and to earn a promotion within the next couple of years.

Part 2: Given my personality traits, high in conscientiousness, agreeableness, and openness, I tend to be organized, cooperative, and open to new ideas. Working with someone who has the opposite traits (low in agreeableness, low conscientiousness, and low openness) could present challenges, especially in communication and teamwork. For example, if I were paired with a colleague who is more rigid, disorganized, and skeptical of new approaches, I would approach the situation with patience and empathy. I’d focus on clear, structured communication to avoid misunderstandings and set mutual expectations early on. In a fire department setting, if I were planning a new training drill and my partner was resistant to change or indifferent to the planning process, I would first acknowledge their concerns and then explain the purpose and benefits of the new approach. By appealing to shared goals like improving team safety and performance I could help bridge the gap in our styles. My adaptability and willingness to listen would help build trust and encourage collaboration, even if our personalities differ significantly.

  1. Macroeconomics

  • Part I: Introduce yourself to your classmates with your name, location, current employment, and future goals.

Part II: In the past, comparative advantages have sometimes shifted from one nation to another. What factors do you think caused these shifts? Why? Was there anything a nation could have done to prevent an advantage from shifting to another nation?

  • Response to Cecil

Hello, class! My name is Cecil, and I currently live in York, a small town in Pennsylvania about an hour from Baltimore. I work as a manager for a regional retail chain, but my goal is to complete my degree and eventually start my own business in a different industry.

The law of comparative advantage suggests that a nation should specialize in producing goods at the lowest cost, forming the foundation of international trade. Factors like tariffs and rising labor costs can shift this advantage. Higher labor costs may push companies to relocate jobs to more affordable regions, while tariffs can either strengthen or weaken a country’s advantage. To prevent such shifts, nations can invest in technological advancements and implement strategic trade policies, both of which directly impact labor costs and tariffs.

  1. Accounting

  • Part I: Introduce yourself to your classmates with your name, location, current employment, and future goals.

Part II: This lesson has suggested that accounting is considered the language of business. Do you agree? Why do you think accounting is the language of business over and above other business functions?

  • Response to Tykena

Part I

My name is Tykena Grant. I live in Lexington South Carolina. I'm currently retired due to an accident. My future goals are to own many laundry mats and food trucks.

Part II

Accounting is the language of business because it tells the full story of a company. It records every transaction, shows whether a business is making a profit and helps owner make smart decisions. No matter how great a product is or how strong sales are if a company don't keep track of its money it won't last long.

  • Response to Cory

My name is Cory Livingston, and I currently have a home in Southeast Texas, however, my wife and our three-year-old daughter have been traveling with me for work for the past couple of years. We are able to see many different things and are able to be together. This isn't the case for most people in my field as their families do not have the same options or situations allowing their families to travel with them. I work as a safety advisor for a major electrical construction company. My goal is to finish school with at least a bachelor's degree if not a master's degree. I feel as though my goals will change and are probably not the most important thing to focus on. I have learned recently that if I stop focusing on my goals and what could be, to list out the steps or processes and just start at 1. Action without movement leads to procrastination and that has been my main enemy. I love that our instructor in this class is a woman of faith, because this aligns with my own beliefs and in particular to the human body. I cannot fathom a world that would exist without a higher power. I've spoken about this with many others and a question that comes up is, how do you know? My example is always the human body. Only supreme design could have come up with so many things working together.  I hope to start my own business very soon and once everything is lined up; I'd like to start by giving back to humanity in some way. Perhaps some sort of non-profit that reaches out to veterans that have lost their way in life and need some help getting squared away again. I think that would be very fulfilling and I feel it as a calling in my heart. It is one of the reasons that I know my business will succeed beyond my initial expectations. I have the full backing of the one and only God. In my current progression, I am slated to finish my associate's degree in December. I look forward to going through this journey with all of you and I hope I learn more things in this class to further highlight my viewpoint on grand design.

  • Response to Hung

Hi everyone, my name is Hung Minh Tran, but you can call me Kevin. I currently reside in San Diego, California, and have been working as an Uber driver for the past seven years. Throughout this time, I've had the opportunity to meet over 30,000 people, which has been a fascinating and rewarding experience. In terms of my education, I'm pursuing a BSBA in Information Technology, with the goal of graduating by March 2026. This class is part of my major, so I'm excited to learn more about business structures and deepen my knowledge. I'm currently focused on finishing my degree next year and hope to gain valuable insights from this class that will help me in my future career. In my personal life, I come from a supportive family, and while I don't have any particularly unusual or unique experiences to share, I do have a strong passion for traveling and exploring new places. I look forward to connecting with all of you and sharing more as we move through this course together.

  1. Organization Communication

  • The purpose of this discussion board is to encourage reading, writing, and interaction with your fellow students. The classroom can be a place where students come together to read content-related items and to discuss what the readings mean. Therefore, you should think of these discussion boards as a place for that interaction.

Below is a question to get you started. The idea is that you will find new ways to respond and react to the reading assignments.

Andrew Fastow, the former chief financial officer (CFO) of Enron who was convicted of wire and securities fraud, explains that the culture of an organization starts with the behavior of the top executives. Employees do not follow empty rhetoric though: Employees imitate the behavior and decision-making processes of top management (Useem, 2016). Based on what you have learned in this unit, do you believe this is an accurate statement? How big of an effect can empty rhetoric have on organizational behavior?

  • Response to Jeffrey

Fastow makes an excellent point. In any organization, the culture starts at the top. If employees feel that the top executives do not care about morality, the entire company will become immoral in no time.

Empty rhetoric is detrimental to any company. A management team can design any process or policy they want. If management is not following it, their team will not follow it. It is highly important that management and executives be held to the same standard as lower-level employees when it comes to their communication and behavior. I recently worked at a company that insisted on having its management read the book “Gung Ho!” By Ken Blanchard and Sheldon Bowles. Creating a Gung Ho! atmosphere in a company hinges entirely on management sticking to the process. Unfortunately, the management couldn’t grasp the concept and so the employees didn’t feel any need to adhere to it either.

Your initial post must be at least 125 words and your peer response must be at least 75 words.

Part I: Introduce yourself to your classmates with your name, location, current employment, and future professional or academic goals.

Part II: Researchers try to use a sample of the population that is truly representative of the people in whom they are interested—one of the main reasons for using random selection. Even so, the sample is usually selected from within a particular segment of the social world in which the researchers themselves live and work.

For example, in the United States there are some fairly distinct differences between people from the Northeast and people from the Southeast, and the same can be true in many other countries. There are also differences between large city populations and populations living in the countryside.

If a psychologist is conducting a study in a particular geographical area of a country, how might regional differences impact the study's results? What measures could or should the psychologist take to minimize the impact?

If no initial posts exist to allow for a response to be made, you may submit an additional initial post addressing another aspect of the unit topic.

  • Response Chloe

Hello fellow classmates,

Part I: My name is Chloe, I live in a small town in Texas and I work as an in-home caregiver for the elderly. My current goal is to obtain an Associates of science in Health Information Technology/Health Care Administration. My future goal is to have a job in healthcare, whatever that may look like.

Part II: Regional differences can impact a psychological study in several ways, one of them being educational differences. Education levels may affect participants’ understanding of the study or their ability to complete certain tasks. Another one is the cultural variations and language, as beliefs can differ widely across regions and linguistic differences can lead to misunderstandings or variations in how questions are interpreted. To minimize the impact the psychologist could ensure that surveys, assessments, and interviews are appropriately translated and culturally relevant and ensure participants reflect a range of educational backgrounds so that findings are not biased toward one particular group.

Hi, I’m Vanessa Rozier-Taylor. I live in sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. I work in the airline industry, a fast-paced field I’ve been involved in for several years. While I enjoy my work, my true passion lies in small business and entrepreneurship.

I’m taking this class because I want to strengthen my knowledge about running and growing a successful business.

I’m married, and we have an adult daughter. My family is my biggest cheerleader, and they’ve been so supportive of my dreams—whether it’s my career in the airline industry or my cookie venture.

Something unique about me is that I’ve always loved combining travel with food. Whenever I visit new places, I make it a mission to explore their local flavors and use that inspiration in my baking.

I’m looking forward to what this class can teach me, not just for my business but also for personal growth. I hope to gain practical knowledge that I can immediately put to use. Plus, I’m excited to connect with others with a passion for learning and entrepreneurship.

  • Response to Tabitha

Hi everyone! I'm Tabitha, and I live in Mobile, AL which is not too far from CSU. I’ve been with a local financial institution for 13 years, currently serving as the HR Manager. My husband, Josh, and I have four energetic boys who keep our lives exciting and nonstop. Between school, sports, and church events, some nights it feels like I may never make it home—but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

I'm currently working toward my MBA in Human Resources, and this is my final set of classes. If all goes as planned, I’ll be celebrating graduation in May 2025! Earning my master’s degree will open the door for me to transition into a VP position, where I can focus more on strategic planning rather than just day-to-day operations. I’m excited about this opportunity to grow within my department and contribute to the expansion of our financial institution.

I’m eager to sharpen my strategic thinking through this course and prepare for future opportunities. I look forward to learning from each of you and collaborating over the next eight weeks!
