  • Response to Shaun

Good afternoon everyone! My name is Shaun James and I am a first-time/ second term student here at CSU. I am so excited to start this course as I journey along the path of pursuing my degree in HealthCare Administration. I have been in the nursing and medical field for 20 years and now have interest to further my career as a administrator. I have a strong passion for patient advocacy and a willingness to take on leadership to not only grow within my profession but to commit to make change related to disparities in medicine.

Medical Law and Ethics is a perfect prelude course for showcasing correct practices and policies that are designed for patient safety and to maintain medical professional integrity. My motivation to seek into healthcare administration was driven from an annual employee evaluation. I was told that I possess the capabilities and skillset to qualify for a position within the related field. After some consulting and contemplating prior to making a decision , my purpose is now to learn how to plan, direct, and coordinate clerical tasks that will provide efficient patient care. This course will set the foundation on effective leadership in which is vital to the success of any healthcare organization while also providing the tools and resources necessary in developing expertise in medical law analysis and innovative problem-solving.

  • Response to Lorraine

Hello everyone,

My name is Lorraine Suliveres-Martin, I am 44 and live in Florida. I was born in Puerto Rico and spent my younger years living in the island and have lived in the Tampa Florida for the past 20 years. I have been working at Tampa General Hospital as administrative assistant for the past 4 years. I am married with four kids aging 25, 22, 21, and 8 with a grandson that is just 7 weeks old. I am currently and Administrative Assistant at TGH for the Quality and Performance Improvement Team. I want to become and Executive and potentially a Operations Coordinator. This is the reason I decided to start school to be able to accomplish these goals and also be an example to my children that it is never to late to go back to school and achieve your goals of graduating with a degree in Healthcare Administration.

My thoughts on Electronic healthcare records (EHRs) versus paper records is that for me personally it has helped speed up the process in getting appointments set up and also ensures that all of my medical records can be shared with other providers and even ED visits, this alone improves the coordination of care. I would say that the disadvantage to this is the possibility of the EHRs being hacked or breached. I know that paper records can sometimes be easier to work with but the disadvantage of having to request them and then waiting can be very time consuming. I live in Florida where hurricanes happen and paper files can definitely be destroyed if floodings happen, and it happens often. Also, this could potentially delay care for the patient.
