I have chosen the University Library under Government Resources and searched the National Center of Education Statistics. An early childhood school readiness mock study would mimic the transitional process for kindergarten. Practice questions, observational simulations, or simulated situations that mimic the actual experience could all fall under this category. This mock study is meant to help people, including aspiring educators or teachers, get acquainted with the format, subject matter, and requirements of hands-on experience (Garon-Carrier et al., 2024). We all Have a Part to Play in Preschool to Kindergarten Transition: Parents, Caregivers, Teachers, and Administrators: What is Your Role?
The parental involvement is independent variable 1. A child's readiness and acclimation to kindergarten can be positively impacted by parental involvement in the transition process, such as visiting the kindergarten classroom, going to orientation activities, and interacting with teachers (Hacıibrahimoğlu, 2022).
The survey question: How much time did you spend preparing your child for kindergarten? (Scale: 1-5, 1 being not at all, 2 very little 3 some 4 almost always 5 always).
The level of measurement is ordinal.
Justification for level of measurement: The significance of preparation and its influence on the child's kindergarten experience are highlighted, and it invites parents to consider the time spent on their child's transition to formal school (Sands & Meadan, 2023).
When you need to rank or sort data but the gaps between ranks are not equal or quantifiable, use an ordinal scale (Understanding scales of measurement in educational research, 2024).
School-based practices and policies independent variable 2. Children can benefit from a more encouraging atmosphere throughout the transition thanks to school-based strategies including classroom visits and staggered school admission, as well as regulations that encourage cooperation between pre-K and kindergarten teachers (Garber et al., 2022).
The survey question: How well did you feel prepared to facilitate the transition from preschool to kindergarten? (Scale: 1-5, 1 being not at all, 2 very little 3 some 4 almost always 5 always)
The level of measurement is ordinal.
Justification for level of measurement: It is useful for comprehending ranks, preferences, and attitudes in areas such as survey responses, educational outcomes, and student satisfaction (Bultez et al., 2025).
When you need to rank or sort data but the gaps between ranks are not equal or quantifiable, use an ordinal scale (Understanding scales of measurement in educational research, 2024).
School readiness is the dependent variable. Everyone involved must work together to support the growth and wellbeing of the children for the preschool to kindergarten transition to be successful (HeadStart.Gov, 2023).
Survey question: How well do you feel the school administration supports teachers in their role in preparing children for kindergarten? (Likert scale: 1 Not at all, 2Slightly, 3Moderately, 4Very much, 5Extremely)
Level of measurement: Ordinal
Justification for level of measurement: When you need to rank or sort data but the gaps between ranks are not equal or quantifiable, use an ordinal scale (Understanding scales of measurement in educational research, 2024).
Research Question: How does the interplay between parental involvement, school-based practices and policies, and children's school readiness impact children's academic achievement and engagement in the early grades?
Null Hypothesis: There is no significant relationship between the interplay of parental involvement, school-based practices and policies, and children's school readiness, and children's academic achievement and engagement in the early grades.
Alternative Hypothesis: A combination of proactive parental involvement, evidence-based school-based practices (like high-quality ECE programs), and supportive policies (like early literacy initiatives) will lead to greater improvements in children's academic achievement and engagement compared to schools that prioritize standardized testing or lack a focus on early literacy development.]
