Towards the end of this class, you will be delivering a 2page-page (single spaced) essay on our five course goals. The purpose of this essay is for you to sit back and reflect your learning experience while experiencing it. The questions below may be helpful in developing your essay. You are not required to answer them one by one.
Goal #1: Make a difference in the community. What personal responsibility have you felt to help your community partner? How can you contribute to the needs of your partner? How does the work of your team contribute to helping (making a difference in) the Portland community given your client’s reach into the community and beyond? Do you currently volunteer for your community? How can the experience in this course help you in your civic responsibilities after you graduate?
Goal #2: Engage in effective communication. What are the most important aspects of communication that you have learned throughout your time as a business undergraduate student? What are the core features of communication that will ensure a good outcome in how you communicate with your client? What previous experiences could you draw on for this?
Goal #3: Appreciate human diversity, equity, and social justice. How have the structure of this course, the assignments, the tasks of this class, and/or our class discussions enhanced your ability to analyze issues from diverse perspectives? How can differences between group members help or hinder the project’s progress or outcomes? How has your work as a team member given you insight into collective problem solving, incorporating diverse viewpoints and differences in communication styles? How does you client address or face issues of diversity, equity, or social justice? How do you suggest that your client works on these issues?
Goal #4: Hone inquiry and critical thinking skills. How has the production of the inputs into the client project allowed you to expand and practice your critical thinking skills? How does this process of self-reflection enhance your ability to critically think about your beliefs and attitudes towards the real-world issues? How have the readings and exercises in this class furthered your skills in the goal areas? What new insights and understandings have you gained?
Goal #5: Understand ethics, agency, & community. What does ethical and social responsibility mean to you? How has your personal experience in this goal area evolved as an undergraduate student here at PSU? How does your client address or face issues of ethical and social responsibility? How do you suggest that your client works on these issues? From your own experience, how did engaging in the community project enhance your abilities in ethical and social responsibility?
