Paper to be written

Overview of Essay 1 (1600 words [4-5 PAGES)

You have been reading about French culture and concepts such as “grandeur”, “conversation”, “private space”, the “establishment of democracy”, etc. In your paper, you will identify a country that speaks French (you have already chosen that in a previous assignment) that is not from Europe, give some basic background information, history (including political) and compare it to what you have learned about France and French culture. In addition to basic information, you will be highlighting how French came to become the official language of the country, the similarities and differences there are between traditions, customs, the differences there are in traditions and customs and how they compare to the concepts presented in the course.

The essay must include a thesis statement (suggestions in other sheet). It should be cited correctly, either MLA or APA, whichever you’re more comfortable with.

You will need to cite your sources in the reference section of your essay AND in text. In text refers to specific info that is not common knowledge. Below are some links that help you with that. Your sources must be ones that I can access. If they are books then I also must be able to access their pdf version. Sources should not be older than 10 years old. You may use the books we have been using in class for your info from France but the Non-European country sources must be from reliable sources. NO TRAVEL sources.

You will submit your draft. I will provide feedback and then you can resubmit for grade. It will be checked for AI.

Note: Grammarly is no longer an editing site. It was bought out a few years ago. It is an AI generating site. If you use it, it will show up as AI generated.

You can use editor in Word, which you have in your email for free. You can also come to the Office Hour or use CTAS.

This is a comparative essay.

Note: In general the thesis statement is presented early in a paper. However, I am asking you to present it after you have done your comparison. Also, do not subtitle. I am providing a structure but you should not subtitle your essay with my structure. Read in more detail below.
