DISCUSSION

Select three peer-reviewed latest (last 2-3 years) scholarly articles that are directly relevant to any research problem. After carefully reading and annotating each article, craft a mini literature synthesis (500–600 words) in which you:

  1. Briefly summarize the core findings of each article (no more than 2–3 sentences per article).

  2. Critically evaluate how each study contributes to understanding or solving your research problem.

  3. Identify a clear "gap" or limitation in the current literature based on your analysis.

  4. Propose a specific research question or direction that your own study could pursue to address this gap.

Your synthesis should not be a collection of summaries. Instead, it must demonstrate your ability to connect, compare, and apply existing research in a way that informs and shapes your own inquiry.

Purpose:
This task is designed to help you move beyond collecting citations and toward constructing a focused, argument-driven literature review. It also builds the analytical foundation for your dissertation work.

To earn full credit, you must post at least 500-600 words and cite two outside scholarly resources and your textbook (at least three sources)

ASSIGNMENT

As a doctoral candidate in business administration, you are expected not only to review literature critically but also to synthesize it in a way that helps frame and address complex, real-world business challenges.

For this assignment, you will simulate being a consulting researcher for a board of directors of a real or hypothetical organization. You are tasked with synthesizing academic literature related to a strategic problem or opportunity the organization is currently facing, ideally aligned with your own research interests or dissertation topic.

This is not just an annotated bibliography, you will analyze and apply the synthesized findings from peer-reviewed literature to propose how the organization can better understand, approach, or resolve the issue. The goal is to bridge academic research with practical business decision-making.

In 2000–3000 words, address the following:

Assignment Instructions

  1. Select a Business Problem or Opportunity:
Choose a contemporary and complex business challenge (e.g., digital transformation, sustainability integration, post-pandemic workforce retention, AI adoption in operations, DEI strategies in global leadership, etc.).
The issue should be relevant to your field of study or intended dissertation.

  2. Compile and Annotate Key Research Sources:
Identify and annotate at least 6–8 scholarly, peer-reviewed articles published within the last 5–7 years that directly relate to the topic.
Each annotation (approximately 150–200 words each) should include:

    • A brief summary of the article’s research question, methodology, and key findings

    • Critical evaluation of the source’s relevance and credibility

    • How the article informs or contributes to understanding the chosen business issue

  3. Synthesize and Apply Insights
After completing your annotations, write a synthesis that:

    • Compares and contrasts key themes and findings across the studies

    • Identifies any significant gaps, contradictions, or emerging trends

    • Applies the synthesized insights to make practical recommendations for the organization’s leaders

    • Reflects on how this synthesis enhances your understanding of literature review writing and its role in academic and practical business research

     4.Conclude with a Forward-Thinking Reflection
Conclude with a brief reflection (200–300 words) on how this literature synthesis exercise  contributes to your research thinking and how such synthesis processes can guide evidence-based decision-making in executive leadership.
