Data driven decision making -Milestone 4

Milestone 4: Find & Evaluate Qualitative, Quantitative, and Mixed Method Research

In this assignment you're going to draw on the second module of this competency to find and evaluate different types of sources that will be useful answering your research question.

Use this opportunity to conduct preliminary research that will support you as you build towards your final paper. Consider ways that you can refine your research questions or topic, and reflect on what research you will need to find.

Instructions

To complete this milestone, you need to:

  1. Locate and read 2 qualitative, 2 quantitative, and 1 mixed methods source that are relevant to your topic.

    1. All of these sources should be from academic journals.  Use the guidelines provided in the 'Evaluating Sources' module to ensure that the sources are of high quality and are sufficiently recent to be of use.

  2. Create a bibliography of your sources using APA 7 style.

  3. Under each source, use 1-2 paragraphs to evaluate the source using the points discussed in the relevant methodological module as a guide.

    1.  How do the different methodological choices of the authors allow them to offer a different perspective on your research topic?

    2. Was their methodological choice appropriate?  What are the strengths and limitations of the research?

    3. How does this source add to your understanding of the research topic? How does it differ from the other sources, and where do they overlap?  Are there areas where the authors disagree?

What to include in your submission

Your assignment submission should include:

  1. An annotated bibliography in APA 7 style containing 5 sources, each annotated with 1-2 paragraphs evaluating the source as explained above

  2. For information about using APA 7 citation style, see https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/reference_list_basic_rules.html
