e-Portfolio and Job Application Assessment Task Introduction You have previously been introduced to the Mahara e -Portfolio program, and encouraged to explore this, add your profile information , and commence adding your résumé and oth er relevant information to this . During this activity, you will improve your résumé and this will increase yo ur chances of finding a suitable IT job. Please review the document Student Guide to Mahara located at the beginning of this course. This contains valuable information to make your task easier. You should also check out the Mahara video which gives an overview of simplifying the e -portfolio process. YouTube has a number of short videos that provide simple instructions to using Mahara. Your e -Portfolio Task Part 1: In Week 9 you will be asked to prepare a Professi onal Résumé which will form the basis of any Job Application that you will prepar e in the future. This view should be shared with you r tutor and will form the first part of your e-Portfolio and Job Application Assessment Task . The instructions mentioned above show you how to ‘share ’ pages in Mahara. You are advised to use the e-Portfol io and Job Application Template provided on your Group Page, but please feel free to create your own, as long as it looks professional and contains the required information. Instructions for making a copy of this template are provided in this document. Part 2: In Week 10 you will be required to prepare a Job Application for a job that you have found. You must customise your e-Portfolio and Job Application (ie your Cover Letter and Résumé ) to r eflect your skills and attributes relevant to this job. In Week 11, you will be given the opportunity to peer review at least 2 of the applications of your fellow students. In this exercise you will gain valuable insight into weaknesses in your own job application documents. Marking Guide Part 1 – Professional Résumé – 25 marks Your Professional Résumé should show the following artefacts/fields. These should be displayed in a professional manner.  Profile Information – including a photo  Contact Information  Ca reer Goals  Academic Goals  Interest  Education History  Employment History  Your SFIA generic skills – displayed in a Text Box  Your SFIA professional skills – displayed in a Text Box  Professional Memberships  Certifications and Awards  A copy of your current résumé/CV/capability statement as a downloadable file. Part 2 – Job Application – 75 marks Your Job Application should contain a customised view of the previous information together with: Copies of: o the job advertisement, o your cover letter and o your cust omised résumé/CV/capability statement as files available to be downloaded. Evaluation of the Job Application will assess the appropriateness of the content of your Cover Letter of your customised résumé/CV/capability statement taking into account the follo wing:  Does the job application and display of your e -portfolio enthuse the reader?  Would the reader consider interviewing this person?  Did the applicant research the job information enough to determine whether the addressee was ma le or female? Did they re search anything about the organisation sourcing the employee?  Was the look and feel of the application and cover letter appropriate and interesting?  Did the applicant address the requirements of the job and respond appropriately? Using the e -Portfolio and Job Application Template Before you prepare a display page for your e -portfolio, you should take time to complete the content artefacts from your dashboard. You should refer to the Stud ent Guide to Mahara to help you here. You can create your own pages b y following the guide or make a copy of the e -Portfolio and Job Application Template and edit this to complete your Assignment. Copying the Template: 1 From your Dashboard – click on the pages link 2 Click on the ‘ Copy a Page’ button 3 Search for and select the e-Portfolio and Job Application Template page. Thi s will now appear as one of the pages in your page list. You can edit this page by clicking on the edit button. Editing the Artefacts: You can edit any of the boxes in your copied page by clicking on the edit link in the top RHS of any box. If you have updated and completed your indi vidual artefacts from the conten t section of your dashboard, you will be able to select these to automatically fill your boxes. You should edit the SFIA Skills text boxes to co mplete these items. Don’t forget to include your 3 files. Completing the display : There may be other artefacts that you would like to add to your displayed assignment – feel free to do this. You can edit the layout and select a theme for you r final display as you desire. Finally: Once you are happy with your final assignment – SHARE this and SUBMIT it to your group.
