Assessing Young Children

Introduction

According to Psychology, learners have different abilities that dictate how they grasp concepts in class and relate the knowledge to the practical life. The kind of teaching that the teachers expose the kids at tender ages helps a lot in shaping their personalities alongside their instincts, that is the kind of belief that an individual adorns to after being brought to the face of the earth. This discussion aims at identifying three different children who have different personalities and abilities after which each and every one of them is going to be subjected to a similar exercise to evaluate their strengths and mastery of the contents. Alongside that test, the three will also be described according to their demographical variations that could have contributed to the expressed differences amongst them.

The exercise that would deem fruitful in the context of measuring the ability of the three selected children is that which has to trigger their memory by beginning the learning process from the things that they know from home, that is, contextualization. Gradually and subsequently, the study would shift gears to challenging activities such as challenging them towards cognitive thinking. After challenging activities then the final stage would be to take them through the instructional conversations where the three are to be engaged in a dialogue to gauge their ability to speak their ideas out, mastery of the language and ability to use the primary language in a conversation. The exercise took three students, that is two males and a single female showing some sought of gender representation and giving this analysis an ideal result for its intended outcomes.

Beginning the study of the first individual who is a kid that hails from a stable family with the support of both parents who is brought to school every day by either of the parents in their family. He is definitely from a background that grants him all that he needs, and he is well taken care of. He is five years of age and has a slightly big body. He is an introvert and does not like to involve himself in lots of the activities in class as he gets offended when any of his classmates move close to his belongings. He loves listening to stories and playing with toys. According to the assessment observations, this kid is likely to have a problem when it comes to the third phase of the exercise where dialogue is needed. He is deemed to take long to talk and at times fail to talk at all. Introverts are reserved individuals who do not like speaking out their mind. But it won’t be sufficient enough to conclude that he can’t dialogue well as such characteristics change with time and the more often the activities become, the more the child gets used to talking to others. His big body and less involvement in the activities in the class is also one of the points to be noted as the factors that influence his learning and grasping of concepts in class.

The second kid is also a boy who has only a single parent, the mother and comes to school with the aid of the school bus. He is five years of age and has a slim body. He is an extrovert who is always at the center of every activity in class. The classmates love to tease him because he rarely gets offended and he is always there for them. his absence in class makes the class dull, and no teacher would leave that class without talking to him because he is too inquisitive. This kind of a child is what every teacher would refer to as the class cheerleaders. He is not prone to developing any incapacitating factor at all. This kid is probably going to have smooth sail through all the three steps of class assessment as he is selfless, active, good in communication and talented in handling the rest of his classmates without offending them. He is the type that teachers refer to them as future leaders and politicians.

The third kid is a girl, also from a stable background but comes to school on the school bus. She is a cool and collected girl who is bright and does not get bothered with what other kids do in class. She handles her activities like a boss and only talks when her attention is implored for. She is 4.5years of age and fluent speaker of the language. If at the age of 4.5 she is already focused and makes uninfluenced decisions in the class where there are those already older than her, then it means she is one step ahead of them. This factor points out to the faster development of the female gender over the males. When the parents were asked why they let her come to school using the school bus, they responded that it was their daughter’s idea, she wanted to travel with her friends to school. This alone reflects the type of upbringing that most parents do not allow their kids to have. This girl is probably going to be the best in this assessment.
