Research Proposal Th e proposal section contains a high -level overview of your project as laid out in a minimum of four iterations. Each iteration should represent approximately two weeks, with a minimum of 40 hours of activity in each iteration . Do not try to layout your full plan at this point, keep this to one or two paragraphs for each iteration description. At this point, you should focus on the big picture. Hypothetical situation…Let’s say your proposal deals with being trained as a database administrator (DBA). You know there are certifications, training, knowledge, and other credentials needed to progress to a senior position, but do not know the exact things needed to obtain the position. You assume you will need the following iterations: Iteration 1 In iteration 1, you anticip ate : (a) Two or three information gathering (brainstorming) session s with representati ves from three , different companies with each session last a maximum of two hours ; (b) Performing a gap analysis between your current knowledge level and the senior DBA po sition; and (c) Researching the DBA knowledge and skill progression . In addition, the iteration will include compiling, analyzing, and reporting the results of each step . At this point you can go into a little more detail but not too much… keep this state ment to one or two paragraphs. Remember, this is an example and one meeting is not sufficient for an iteration. Iteration 2 You expect to attend several days of DBA training , which include several one -hour progress meetings, a follow up meeting with the d epartment supervisor, periodic skill and knowledge testing, and practicing the skills learned or the ones needing extra attention. Again keep this to one or two paragraphs, I encourage you to focus on the big picture. Remember, this is an example and one meeting is not sufficient for an iteration. Iteration 3 You assume there will be several more days of DBA training, follow up meetings with various personnel, periodic skill and knowledge testing, and practicing the skills learned or the ones needing extra attention. Again keep this to one or two paragraphs, I encourage you to focus on the big picture. Remem ber, this is an example and one meeting is not sufficient for an iteration. Iteration 4 The training has a final exam and you need to devote time to study while also continuing the DBA training along with meeting the various senior personnel who are assessing your progress or mentoring you through the training. Again keep this to one or two paragraphs, I encourage you to focus on the big picture. Remember, this is an example and one me eting is not sufficient for an iteration. Iteration 5 This could be the final few days of your internship, which may include the final skills and knowledge exam, exit interviews, or a full time job offer. A figure, see Figure 1 , showing at least four iterations of your Action Research project’s flow must appear at the end of your proposal.
