eLabs Get Started Guide This document is meant to help users through the process of accessing applications from the eLabs website. Be sure you have appropriate permissions to install application s on the computer you are using . Simply check the box to agree with the Citrix license agreement, and click the Install button. This will start the installation process of the latest version of Citrix Receiver for your operating system. Please be sure to complete the installation of the Citrix Recei ver before you log on to eLabs. If this prompt does not display, than the site has determined that receiver is already installed on your Computer . If you think this is in error, you may visit the Citrix website and download the Citrix R eceiver manually he re http://www.citrix.com/downloads/citrix -receiver/receiver -easy -install/detect -my -device - and -install -receiver.html Step 2: Log ging o nto the website To log onto the eLabs website, you must either be a current ly enrolled student , or a member of the faculty/staff at FIU. Students can simply input their MyAccounts username and password to log in. Faculty and staff must use the format “ad \username” in order to log in. Step 3: Adding Applications On your first login to the eLabs site, you will be directed to click on the plus (+) sign to the left of the screen in order to populate your homepage wi th the applications you would like to access. From there you click on “All Apps” and you will see a list of software that is available to you. Clicking on a program from this list will populate your home page with the icon that will launch that applica tion. (Note: Clicking the items on this list will not launch the applications) Alternatively you may wish to use the search bar located at the top right of the site to populate your home page. Simply begin typing the name of the program and if it is avail able to you, it will appear below the search bar. Step 4: Launching Applications Simply click ONCE on the icon of the application you wish to launch, and receiver will launch a window to let you know that the program is starting. (Note: Sometimes the w indow launches minimized and you will see the Citrix Receiver in your taskbar.) Once the Receiver progress bar completes, the application will start up as if you had launched it on your local machine. You may be prompted with a warning that an application would like to access files on your computer ; be sure to select “Permit all access” if you want to save your work to your PC. On a Mac you will need to select “Read & Write” to be able to save your work. Unless you check the “Do not ask me a gain” box, you will be prompted each time for this permission. (Note: These windows do not show up for all users) Step 5: Opening/Saving Files When you initially go to open, or save a file using any of the applications within eLabs, you will almost always be presented with this message: However, if you simply click “OK” the normal open/save window will appear. This window appears because, by default, most programs try to save to the “My Documents” folder on the server that is hosting the application. Thi s type of access however, is restricted. In order to access files and folders from the machine you are on, it is necessary to go to “My Computer” and here you will see “Local Disk (C: on COMPUTER NAME)” . This will be your local hard driv e. (Note: If you want to save it to your personal “My Documents” folder, it can be found at c:\users \USERNAME \documents)
