Running Head: Environmental Conservation

Recently, many cases relating to environmental conservation have risen. According to the laws established in the United States, businesses are required to factor out environment whenever they undertake their operations. There are various laws that are related to environmental conservation such as; no cutting of trees, no disposal of waste matter in rivers, use of environmental friendly fuels etc. Failure to preserve environment have got various economic impacts such as; wastage of resources, high cost of controlling waste, increased cost of seeking medical attention as a result of illnesses arising from poor environment.

Concerning environmental conservation, my moral position is that, environment must be conserved. Businesses rely on the environment for their resources and if thy destroy it, they won’t be able operate any longer. Again, not only business relies on the environment for their survival, we have other living things such as people, animals, insects and plants. It is not ethical to destroy environment knowing that the effects will negatively affect other creatures created by God. In the beginning, God instructed man to take care of all the creatures that he had created, destroying the environment, entails going against Gods will as well as rules established by the state. Ethical theory that I propose in this incident, is the theory of Utilitarianism. This theory is based on the idea that, one should choose action that benefits the majority. In other words, actions that only benefit a few groups of people or living things are not termed as morally right. It is believed that, rules established by the society and the state In general, are morally right as they are established to serve the whole society and the state in general. Therefore, people should give high priority to such established rules. Again, religious rules are also classified under utilitarianism theory. Connecting this ethical theory to our case here, it is evident that, every living thing in this world relies on the environment for survival, be it animals that live on dry land, in air or even in water. Any negative effect to the environment will always induce negative impacts to their lives; it can even lead to death of these animals. Therefore, conserving environment will benefit majority of the living things as the ethical theory holds; any action benefiting majority in the society is morally right, therefore, I can conclude that, conserving environment is the right thing (morally right) and people should be encouraged to abide to the established rules and regulations concerning environmental conservation.
