Chronic water and sanitation problems are one of the greatest issues facing the world today, and there is a need for major investment to bring significant change. The water crisis is one of the most important global issues. Waterborne diseases caused by lack of sanitation and hygiene are one of the leading causes of death worldwide. For children under age five, waterborne diseases are a leading cause of death. According to the World Bank, 88 percent of all waterborne diseases are caused by unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene (Bartram & Cairncross, 2010). Water is the underlying tenuous balance of safe water supply, but controllable factors such as the management and distribution of the water supply itself contribute to further scarcity. These are some of the factors that make water crisis a global issue.

When we compare the recent water crisis in the city of Flint, Michigan and other water sources in the world the main concern is water sanitation. The city took cost-cutting measures that led to contaminated drinking water that contained lead and other toxins. Soon after the switch, the water started to look, smell and taste funny.
