Madm 701: Group Case Report
Objective: To work in groups to apply concepts learned in class to a real world organization through case analysis.
Case Selection: Students should visit the following websites to select their cases:
a) Harvard Business School Publishing (https://hbr.org/)
b) Darden Business Publishing (https://store.darden.virginia.edu/)
c) Ivey Publishing (https://www.iveycases.com/)
Cases should be chosen based on group members’ common interest in a course topic and the potential to apply a number of concepts. Cases should be at least 8 pages long. The publication date of the cases should be in the last 24 months. Articles, technical notes, and white papers regardless of length do not qualify as cases. Sometimes articles or essays are classified as cases and may include industry examples. These also do not qualify as cases. The typical case deals with a situation in a single company at a given point in time. If a case has A & B parts, one may contain details of the problem situation and the other may contain an epilogue or what the company actually did and the results. In such cases, you can select one or both parts, but you cannot select just the “B” case, without the “A” case.
More specific search instructions are available in “Searching for Cases” in General Course Documents.
Report: The report should contain the following sections/features:-

Analysis of alternatives; short term/long term cost benefit

Maximum length = 15 pages all inclusive [12 point font, double spaced, 1” margins]
Note: The most important part of the paper is “Analysis of issues/problems using concepts from class”. This is the section where students demonstrate their grasp of course materials. Alternatives should flow from this analysis and the paper must explicitly show (in the “Analysis of alternatives” section) how the alternatives will address the problems/issues identified earlier (in the “Major issue/problems to be addressed section).
Important: The recommendation has to be one of the alternatives or a combination, i.e., it cannot be something not discussed/analyzed earlier. Be sure to explain how following the recommendation will address the major problems/issues identified earlier.
