presentation

In this assignment, develop a persuasive presentation for your colleagues (technical audience). This presentation should be 4-5 minutes in length (unless otherwise announced), and you will be penalized for exceeding this time requirement (by even one second). You will receive a prompt and a sample data set and a defined problem. Using Excel to analyze the dataset, you will create a recommendation based on your insights. Be prepared for a short question and answer session after the presentation. In this assignment, you will not use any technology (including PPT or Prezi) but you have the option to use other visual aids.

Persuasive Presentation Planning Sheet (PG). This assignment asks you to answer questions about your strategy and intention in persuading the audience to solve a problem.

Guidelines for Your Presentation

  • Your are presenting to the analytics and insights team, and your supervisor.  They are people you know so you do not need to establish your credibility and the people understand technical information

  • The presentation length is a maximum of 4 minutes and you will be timed

  • You will have time for one minuteof questions, which means generally one question. Students are allowed to ask questions of each other.

  • All students are expected to attend for the duration of all the presentations in your breakout group, and turn off cell phones and electronic devices. We will start on time so please plan to arrive at least ten minutes early for class and be seated in your respective breakout room.

  • There will be a mix of students presenting the four different assignments in the breakout room

  • You can use visuals that follow the parameters in the assignment but you cannot use PPT, Prezi or any visuals that involve technology (e.g. you can use handouts, a chart you hold, a prop for example).

  • You are expected to interpret the data and select the data that is the best for your recommendations.  Feel free to make reasonable assumptions regarding the interpretation of the data and what is realistically possible to do in terms of the recommendations.

  • Your presentation should be clear, concise, logical and understandable. Practicing  in advance as we discussed in class will help you feel confident and comfortable with your presentation and ensure that you meet the time requirements.

  • You will be recorded during your presentation and receive feedback following the presentation.
