collaboration. 1 Learning Team Charter for Collaborative Learning Activities – ABC/123 Team X Overview

A combination of collaboration and learning team strategies have been integrating throughout your program to support you in the development of skills associated with the University Learning Goals of communication, critical thinking and problem solving, information utilization, professional competence and values, specifically collaboration. In your 200-level courses, you’ll participate in collaborative learning activities which involve group discussions that reflect specific content covered for the week. As a team, students will discuss, brainstorm, and share ideas regarding the assigned activities. The collaborative activities are not graded; however, they are required as students will need the information discussed to complete their individual assignment. The faculty member will assign students to learning teams to complete these collaborative activities. The individual assignment is worth 2 points.

Establish Learning Team expectations by completing the table below. Determine as a group, how you will address the ground rules for engagement. Each Learning Team member should contribute to a discussion leading to consensus around team expectations.

Participation

How often should team members meet to discuss an assignment deliverable?

I think that team members should meet on a daily basis to discuss the progress and any issues or suggestions that someone may have.

I think that it should be a priority when you are online in the classroom that you check the “collaborative discussions” and “collaborative assignments” to see if anyone has posted a comment that needs to be addressed. Don’t wait until the weekend to respond.

Twice a week, Tuesday and Saturday

I feel that we should be in touch with each other the majority of the week-things happen and we need to be able to handle any changes or problems that come up.

Collaboration

How will we work with others to achieve our assignment goals and work through conflict?

We will work as a team and have everyone assigned to work on certain tasks to complete any goals that we are assigned. We need to be able to address any conflicts and resolve and move on.

Everyone will be assigned a part of the assignment and there should be timelines when stuff needs to be turned in – that way it leaves the door open for any changes that need to be made in an appropriate amount of time.

We should organize the work we have to do during the week, share tasks and meet Saturday or Sunday.

Everyone is given a piece of the assignment to do and we set guidelines on when it needs to be done, giving us time to make any changes or re-assign something to another person if a piece is not being done.

Communication

What modes of communication will we use? Where will we communicate?

We will communicate through the telephone or email.

As I stated above, I think it should be a priority that everyone at least checks to see the if anyone commented on the “collaborative” parts and if someone did and it requires a response, instead of ignoring it, someone needs to take initiative and continue the conversation. If someone is not responding or doing his/her part, then an email should start followed by a text message.

By text message and e-mail or follow the thread so he or she can follow on to the discussion and be up to date with the most recent information or decision we choose.

Most communication should be through the thread-this is easy to follow and allows for the instructor to see the participation as well, however text and email is also a great way to get things to each other quickly if something has come up or there is a possible problem coming.

Team contributions

What are the expectations for equitable contributions from each team member?

Everyone must be committed and dedicated to take on an equal piece of each task and to ask for help and questions when needed.

Everyone needs to do his or her part and everything needs to be equal. On top of the collaborative assignments we also have individual assignments and no one wants to do any more work than other people.

Through clear communication we should task accordingly and contribute with the part we get tasked. It is a team effort and some of us may need assistance from others.

Making sure that we all communicate and that the expectations are clear from the beginning. Everyone must do their own part of the team assignment, we are all busy and no one wants to do extra work.

Assignment deadlines

Identify the dates in which team collaborative activities should be completed in order to complete the individual assignments.

With all of the assignments being completed on Monday, then the activities should be completed by each Friday to ensure enough time to complete the assignments.

Looking at the team assignments, I feel that Friday night or Saturday the latest these should be completed to allow the rest of the weekend to finish individual assignments. I believe it is doable for everyone to have their part done by this time.

Saturday to give time for review and submitted Sunday or Monday based on what the team agrees should be turned in.

For the team assignments I would feel more comfortable with Friday night being the latest and than Saturday morning if something came up. That way there is time before it is due. This also leaves everyone with enough time to do team work and the individual assignments.

Other Considerations

Include any other special considerations for this team

Please, just do your part and contribute, as I promise to do mine as well

Communication is key for the team to be able to be successful. Opinions should be respected and dialogue will help us meet the task deadlines. We should consider that most of the team members take online class not by choice but because it is the only way that one may have time to study

I have to agree with both of you in this that as long as we each do our parts of the work and work together that will allow us all to succeed. Please do not leave your team stranded at the last minute with additional work to complete. I know a lot of us already do not have enough hours in the day to get done all that we dol.
