Chosen topic: Women in Combat Roles
Why you chose this topic for Research Preparation Project
I chose this topic considering that it has been the focus of major controversy over a period, and has raised a lot of argument especially in defense of military policies. Most policies have for quite a long time, stood in the way of embracing particular sexualities especially in combat roles. Women have for quite a long time, been sidelined in performing protection laws. Primary arguments have been put in place both in support and against the importance of embracing women and encouraging them to perform combat roles.
Most individuals want to see women afforded full combat roles, and allowed to prove their capability alongside the males (Sheppard, 2007). Historically, people participating in combat were male, which makes it a unique phenomenon to embrace the role of women in combat roles. Germany was the first country to open all combat units for females, and this eventually increased the recruitment of the female soldiers.

Argument for the topic
Military readiness
Allowing the presence of both genders in military operations enhances strength. Women are likely to sacrifice for their team members, and the presence of compassion is bound to encourage togetherness which should not be eliminated.
Effectiveness
The commander is in most cases, limited to pick the most suitable individual for the job where he is only restricted to choose from the male professionals.
Career advancement
Combat duty is in most cases, considered necessary for promotion purposes, especially to senior positions. Denying female personalities such chances act as a derailing factor towards their individual and professional development. There is a need to provide equal opportunities to men and women for the purpose of enhancing a democratic and fair society.
Argument against the topic
Female service members have for a period, proven to be morally capable of executing different combat operations. Some of the marines even feel qualified for the chance of taking the role. Primary debate still continues whether women can endure the physical and rigorous combat operations.
Physical capability
Most of the jobs in different countries are open to both female and male. There are some for which women might find tough to fit in, and women attempting to reach them find it extremely strenuous. Women serving in combat and military operations suffer a very high rate of injury as a result of their involvement in such activities.
Efficiency
Most women will not be able to meet the requirements and the standards which have been set for implementation in military operations.
Morale and cohesion
Mission effectiveness is bound to be hampered where women are allowed to directly service in military operations (Rozakis, 2007). This element, in turn, will create an obstacle in achieving morale and cohesion.
