System Description Document (SDD)

Purpose: The purpose of the SDD is to describe the system you have chosen for your project in sufficient detail to assess its feasibility as a project system.

The research paper should adhere to the following guidelines: 

 

Due Date: By March 3, 2017 

 

Paper format:

  • At least 7 but no more than 12 pages

  • Margin: 1-inch on all sides.

  • Spacing: Double-spaced.

  • Font: 12

  • Each page must be numbered

  • The cover page must include the title, your name, course number, course section, and the date of submission in APA style.

 

Sources: Be sure to list the reference and cite it, as appropriate.

 

Structure: The paper should have the following elements. Feel free to add information that you feel will be helpful in describing the system in keeping with the purpose of the SDD.

  1. Introduction: Provide a brief introduction to your system and why you chose it for the project.


  1. Background: Give information on the background of your proposed system. This should include the source for the system information, with citation if applicable.

  1. It will generalize the system to a set of system and functional requirements, and will also include discussion of design approach and stakeholder management. 


  1. Structural Decomposition: Provide a high level structural decomposition of the system. For example, a structural decomposition of an airplane might look like:

5. Functional Decomposition: Provide a high level functional decomposition of system functions. For example, the functional decomposition for airplane flight might look like:


6. This deliverable will examine subsystem requirements and develop a high level specification and allocated baseline. 

7. This deliverable will complete the design management plan for the chosen system adding discussion on component and lower level design, as well as the role of evaluation and audits in the design plan. 

8. Conclusion: Include rationale for why you think the system is applicable for the final project.
