Module 3 Assignment 1

Module 3 Overview

In Module 2, you explored the different aspects of quantitative research design. In this module, you will look at two additional design options—qualitative and mixed-methods research. As you explore these different methodologies, you will find that the way a research question is written, along with the end goal of that research, will guide the type of methodological design that is used. For example, how or why questions that explore phenomena often lead to qualitative research, while research questions that lead to the collection of quantitative or numerical data lend themselves to the use of quantitative research. Yet, there are times when both kinds of data need to be collected to fully answer the given research questions, resulting in the use of the mixed-methods design.

By the time you finish this module, you should be well equipped to analyze studies in professional publication as well as make valid design decisions, which you will apply in Module 4 and Module 5, as you develop the design strategy that will be applied in your final research proposal.

Module 3 Assignment 1 1

Module 3 Assignment 1 2

  • Compare and contrast the characteristics of classic experimental designs, quasi-experimental designs, non-experimental designs, and survey research.

  • Discuss issues related to the calculation, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of statistical output.

  • Define the role of the qualitative researcher.

  • Develop Annotated Bibliography that reviews all three types of research design.
