Pfeffer does a good job in explaining these myths; nonetheless, he’s been trying to debunk these myths for a long time and yet, they still are widely accepted. How frustrating! In your groups, discuss Pfeffer’s six dangerous myths and select the one myth that you think is the hardest for people (e.g., managers, employees, students) to let go of (i.e., the myth that people want to hold onto and not admit that it is indeed, a ‘myth’). Explain your choice and describe why you think that myth is difficult for people to let go of. Next, create your own “dangerous myth” (i.e., Myth #7) based on what you’ve learned in MGMT 3000 so far: what beliefs about management (the field, literature, concepts, theories, etc.) do you think are misunderstood (by other students, employees, managers, and/or the general public who haven't taken this class)? Explain your choice, and like Pfeffer has done in the article, describe the ‘reality’ of the situation. In describing the ‘reality’ of the situation, be sure to identify two consequences that might befall students, employees, managers, and/or the general public if your dangerous myth (i.e., Myth #7) is held onto.
