Culture in simple terms can be said as the working environment Robbie Katanga defined the culture as “Culture is how organizations ‘do things’.” We can say that culture is the consistent, observable patterns of behavior in organizations. According to Aristotle culture is what we repeatedly do in an organization. This definition of culture depicted the repeated behavior or habits as the base of culture and deemphasizes the concept of what people feel, think or believe in an organization. All these definitions forces us to pay attention on the forces that shape behavior and culture in organizations and we need to evaluate whether all these forces are equally important or not.

In this course project I have selected Southwest Airlines. Southwest Airlines belongs to USA and it provides air travelling services on national routes only. Its passengers are businessman and those individuals that travel by air on their normal routine. Company started its operation in 1971 while it has taken the license since 1967 to work as an air traveling organization.

Rolling king was the main person behind the formal promotion and concept of company, who gained a vast business experience from San Antonio Texas entrepreneur.

In this article it’s summarized that how the culture and internal disputes weaken the goodwill of a company. Southwest Airlines culture gave value to fun and hard work in its culture but currently corporate owner of company is facing bad times due to the hostile public disputes with its labor unions that never happened in the past. Employees are not with company as they are waving anti-Southwest placards.

About two third workforces are with union that is asking the CEO Gary Kelly to leave or go step down in the company. Despite this mess it was reported that South west profit remained unaffected and as usual they earned handsome in the last quarter as well. Hostility is fueling all these concerns as many employees have not got their first salary increments. Due to this mess and cultural disturbance company is now thinking to take productivity gains and new work rules because it has lost absolute gains in operating costs over its major competitors like American Airlines Group Inc., Delta Air Lines Inc. and many others. Southwest is considered as second largest carried at Denver International Airport. Investors are worried about this mess created by employees and they are trying to analyze whether all these factors will affect the operational statistics.

Employees are feeling that culture of company is no more supporting for workforce as they no longer care for the people. While in past it was common believe of founders of company that success of Southwest is based on its people. Its clearly estimated form the motto of founder that in order to get successful in long term business operation takes care of your employees as in return they will take care about your customers but emphasize was laid on employees first.

CEO needs to know about the culture and true mechanism of company in order to avoid such cultural issues that become hurdle in growth. No doubt Gray is an astute businessman having strong businessman but he did not truly understood the organization as Herb did. Investors are trying to bon with management to resolve these issues so that in future they can’t bear such issues.
