Objective:

Mobile application development is a computer generated program designed to run on Smartphone and other mobile devices. In the early 90s, IBM Simon was credited to be the first touch screen smart phone and was introduced to the world as the first Smartphone with applications. It had a calendar, address book, clock, calculator, notepad, email, and a touch screen with a QWERTY keyboard. Also, Nokia came up with simple gaming apps like Snake, Pong. However, all these applications were limited to in-house only, which means developers were not able to design their own applications and get benefits out of them. Smartphone users as well were not completely satisfied until 2007-2008 when Apple launched the first iPhone and App Store (Shahid, 2014).

The Apple Store revolutionized the world of mobile applications development because it offered all apps that are available in the market and installing them was very easy. The establishment of Apple Store gave the opportunity to all app developers across the world to design their apps and benefit from them (Shahid, 2014).

For my capstone project, I would like to design a mobile application. The purpose of this application is to gather all video gamers around the world into one app. I chose mobile application because we all can see the importance of mobile application nowadays, and how people can easily connect with each other though mobile application such as, video calling and social networking applications. The purpose of this application is to allow people to compete with each other through their passion of gaming by using this mobile application.

I chose Dr.Murphy to be my mentor for my capstone project. Dr. Diane Murphy, a professor of Information Management at Marymount University, and Department Chair. She got her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wales, UK and got her master’s degree and PHD from the University of Sheffield, UK. Dr.Murphy has seven teaching areas in Cybersecurity, Information Management, Database Management, Web Developments, Requirement Engineering , Software Engineering and Mobile Apps. (Marymount.edu).

Project Plan

For my project, I will be working on designing the application. This application is designed for all video gamers around the world .Nowadays video games are becoming one of the important forms of entertainments. However, I have spent a decent amount of time watching tutorials on how to design application. I will spend time searching about applications that most gamers use, so I design useful features that suit their needs. I will start designing the app on a program online, and I will ask my family and friend to see the design to give me feedback and suggestions.

The goal behind designing this application will be about allowing people to compete with each other through their passion for gaming. Every game on the software will list its best game players. The best game players will depend on their scores and their rating. Each video game will have list 100 top gamers. The video game options will range from the oldest to the newest ones. We will also include the most popular ones such as Fifa, call of duty.

Resources Section:

For my project, I will search for a program or software that I can use to design my application. It will be my main source for this project. Also, I will spend most my time working on designing the application. I always use the online web to find my information.

Project Timeline

From the beginning of this semester, I began searching for a topic, and I have been watching tutorials on how to design application and the most important features that an application should have. In January, 7th I chose my topic and it was approved from my mentor Dr.Murphy. I started reading articles online that I found helpful for me. I still did not decide on the name of application. However, the design of the application will be commonly and easily to used.

Knowledge being applied:

This application will be commonly and easily used. I’ve had thought of this idea , because I have a brother who spends 5-6 hours daily on his playstation playing video games , and he tells me that he has fans from all around the world and he’s a expert in video gaming. As such, I decided to design an app to allow people or gamers like my brother to have a place where all gamers can be in contact with each other.

I am interested in designing mobile applications. When I took the two web development courses they were mainly about developing websites, However, I enjoyed designing the website, and in the fact that I decided to design an application is because I find mobile application are more used and easy to function. In my two web development courses I learned so much about HTML, JavaScript, CSS as well as php from these courses and that made it easier for me to learn how to create apps.

Risk Factors:

For my project, I will be just designing the application and creating a guide into how to use the application .However, I think this is not an issue in the meantime because my goal of project is to design the application. I think the risk of the application will be about if application will not meet my goal and expectations.
