Position Paper Rubric


Papers should be 2.5-3.5 pages, 12pt. font, double spaced, with APA format.

Position papers will be graded on a standard grading scale (0-100).

A- Position (pro/con) is clear summarized in the introduction and consistent throughout the paper, organization is logical, meets the criteria for length and formatting, provides appropriate background information from the course readings, critically engages the material and answers relevant questions from the assignment description and points out strengths and shortcomings in the material where appropriate. Uses a variety of course materials (supplemental reading, videos) rather than just the textbook.

B- Position is somewhat clear and consistent, organization is generally clear and logical, meets the criteria for length and formatting, provides appropriate background information from the course readings, answers some relevant questions from the assignment description, but fails fully engage the material in a critical and/or supportive manner. Draws too much on only one or two course materials (i.e. the textbook).

C- Position is somewhat unclear or inconsistent, organization is not always clear and logic is sometimes hard to follow, is close to the criteria for length and formatting, provides a summary or cursory support from the course materials with little to no specific citations or examples, and adequately answers at least one question from the assignment description.

D- Position and organization are unclear and logic is hard to follow, does not meet the criteria for length and formatting, provides only a summary of the course material without specific citations or examples, and does not adequately answer any of the questions from the assignment description.

F- Very unorganized and hard to follow, does not meet the criteria for length and formatting, provides only a summary of the course material without specific citations or examples, and does not attempt to answer any of the questions in the assignment description.
