Discussion Board

Requirement of the discussion

As soon as possible after the class meeting, please participate in this discussion forum to begin working on Part II of the Requirements Document project. If you haven’t already reviewed the Requirements Document - Technology Section assignment overview, please do so; you can find the information on a previous page in the module.

Your group should use this discussion forum to 1) review and discuss the Business Requirements section you’re assigned to respond to (see the Group Assignments page in this module) and 2) discuss how your group will complete Draft 1 (e.g., tool, frequency of communication and feedback, roles). Make your initial post early so that you have time to comment on each other’s posts and develop a plan for Draft 1 before the end of the module. The earlier you make your initial post, the more time you will have for group conversations. You must make at least two posts by the due date.

Requirements Document - Technology Section Assignment Overview

The Requirements Document assignment has two parts. In Part II, you will take on the role of the technology partners. Specifically, you will work with your group to prepare the functional/technical specifications for a Requirements Document that another group (acting as the business partners) started in Part I of the assignment.

Details

To complete Part II, please work together with your assigned group to write the technology section of the Requirements Document:

Database Engine

Compare Risk/Benefits of at least two Database Engines

Speak to how the chosen engine will support the business needs

Data Lake Components

Data Lake Architecture

Compare Risk/Benefits of at least two Data Lake configurations

Speak to how the chosen Configuration will support the business needs

Recovery/Continuity of Business

Compare Risk/Benefits of at least two Data Lake configurations

Speak to how the chosen Configuration will support the business needs

Optional: Data Governance

The functional/technical specifications section must be detailed and clear with explanation on how the technology supports the business requirements. The write-up should be no more than four pages long.

Deliverables

To help your group stay on top of this assignment, there are multiple assignment deliverables:

You will participate in an online discussion with your group to discuss how to move forward.

You will submit Draft 1 of the technical requirements section.

You will participate in a second online discussion with your group.

You will submit a final draft.

You will present your work to the class.

Opportunities to Work Together

We have provided discussion forums that your group will use to work on the technology requirements section. Every student is required to participate in the forums. (Expectations for participation are spelled out in the individual forums.)

Remember that your group also has a dedicated, private workspace in this course site, which you can access by clicking Groups in the left global navigation. In your group’s space, you can hold meetings with your teammates using a conferencing tool called BigBlueButton. BigBlueButton allows you to see and hear each other via your computer's webcam and microphone and to discuss shared documents, presentations, and other files. You can choose to record and save your conferences for up to 14 days using BigBlueButton. (You can find more information about BigBlueButton on the Technologies and Support page in the Getting Started module.)

Within your group’s space, you have access to Google Docs, which allows multiple users to work together on the same document simultaneously. Collaborative documents are saved in real-time; a change made by any user will be immediately visible to everyone. You can also share files and resources, make announcements to teammates, host your own private team discussions, and even build wiki pages for your team, if you so choose.

Unlike the mandatory discussion forums, participation in these work spaces is suggested only. It’s up to your group if and how it uses its dedicated workspace.

This is a discussion, and you should follow the requirement and analysis the group project. It should be 1~2 Pages long. Thank you very much!

Hi all, I just emailed you the 4 page business requirements document and the presentation from Group 6 (same version of presentation that I sent before).  Please read through these materials and then I think we should try to have a discussion about it next week sometime.  Jaya and Don -- since you seem to be the busiest, please give us a few dates and times that work for you.  For me, Monday afternoon and anytime on Tuesday are best.

Please let us know.

Thanks!

  • Database Engine

    • Compare Risk/Benefits of at least two Database Engines

From our client’s need, their purpose is to propose a business plan for the boutique to design a VRu(Virtual Runway) to provide retail customers a better shopping experience in real store. They have data types; for instance, structured data, unstructured text data, unstructured image data, real-time data, external data and etc. From my perspective for now, I recommend of two database engines: Apache Spark, and MongoDB. The Apache Spark is based on Hadoop, and it is useful with real-time and extensive database. MongoDB is based on NoSQL, and it is used in unstructured and semi-structured data. More information need to be provided for different data.

    • Speak to how the chosen engine will support the business needs

Since the business requires different types of data, and the timelines of data. The engine could be more helpful if they just meet the requirement of the different type.

2. Data Lake Components

I have not thought about this part yet, and probably come up with some ideas later.
