How to Install Solver in Microsoft Excel

Solver is a tool for optimization and equation solving. It is an add-in that needs to be installed so that you can use Microsoft Excel to solve linear programming

problems. Normally, Solver is not installed when Excel is first setup on your hard drive. Below are the steps provided for installing Solver in Excel 2007 and 2003.

To install the Solver add-in in Excel 2007:

1. Start Microsoft Excel.

2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Excel Options.

3. Click Add-Ins (on the left-hand side of the dialog box), and then in the Manage box, select Excel Add-ins.

4. Click Go.

5. In the Add-Ins available box, select Solver Add-in, and then click OK.

Tip: If Solver Add-in is not listed in the Add-Ins available box, click Browse to locate the add-in. If a message appears saying that the Solver Add-in is not currently installed on your computer, click Yes to install it.

6. After the Solver Add-in is loaded, you can start Solver by clicking the Data tab and then the Solver command in the Analysis group.

To install the Solver add-in in Excel 2003:

1. Start Microsoft Excel.

2. Click Tools on the menu bar, and then click Add-Ins to open the Add-Ins dialog box.

3. Select Solver Add-Ins and click OK.

Tip: If Solver Add-in is not listed in the Add-Ins dialog box, click Browse to locate the add-in. If a message appears saying that theĀ Solver Add-in is not currently installed on your computer, click Yes to install it.

4. After the Solver Add-in is loaded, you can start Solver by clicking Tools and then Solver.
