Focused Paper

For this cognitive activity, please focus on the standardized assessments introduced that focused on cognitive and speech/language assessments.   As you are well aware, students from varied socioeconomic, and ESOL environments face many challenges in the cognitive and language domains due to cultural/linguistic differences/mismatches.

Your paper should range from 2 double spaced pages.

For the focused review, you will:

1. Identify the author(s)/documents utilized

2. Generate a focused summary of salient points the author(s) advanced

3. Delineate a minimum of three reasons (synthesis) why it is important for

teachers to consider cultural variables when administering/interpreting

cognitive and language assessments

4. Generate your personal reflections regarding the merits/criticisms noted

regarding the phenomenon of over representation of minority groups and the NCLB

(now the ESSA) mandate to close the achievement gap.
