Seat Belt Law

In the United States, Many states require the seat belt as a protection in each individual’s personal vehicle. This paper is to explain the importance of the seat belt law, ethical basis and theories about the topic. It will be a comparison of Hobbes and Rousseau political theories review the pros and cons of it.

Ethical Basis

The theories of Rousseau and Hobbes had a significant impact to form a social contract theory. They agree in some aspects of the theories and in some others areas had a couple of contradictions. Base on Rousseau and Hobbes individuals are obligated by law to wear a seatbelt. This rule is made to protect individuals life or from harm. If people do not use the seat belt in their personal vehicle they are breaking the law and if police catch these individuals the have to pay a fine. However, there is some exceptions to this law and we are talking about, public transportation in where people get to be transported from one place to another without the necessity of the seat belt.

The State of Florida

The State of Florida is one of the states in the United States to have a seat belt law. However, this law has a long way to go. In Florida, it became a primary offense in 2009, and drivers 18 and older penalize if they or any passenger in the vehicle has not properly bucked up. According to Florida DMV, any car made by 1968 in individuals in front seat most need to wear the seat belt and if they had a minor in the vehicle most need to wear the seat belt as well. this law applies to all vehicle, from cars to pick up truck and vans operated in the State of Florida.

For children under 3 years old, the government had approved child- resistant seat to secure their life as well as children from 4 to 5 must be secured either by a resistant seat or a safety seat belt

It is very important to understand that this law was made to make people safe, seat belts had been saved more than 75,000 lives in United Stated from 2004 to 2008. If people decide not to follow this law they may end paying from 30 to 60 dollars a ticket.

The government with the seat belt law provide security to individuals life and their families giving them the opportunity to travel safely. The government imposition to this law is basically to keep the life of every human bean safe.
