1 WRITING ASSIGNMENT  Du e at 9:10a on 3/29 in the D2L dropbox . 650 word minimum (not including budget and any references cited).

 Use headings and sub-headings as appropriate. More headings and sub-headings are better than less.

 Citation of references in the draft is encouraged but not required.

 Style is up to you.

 Double- spaced with 1’ margins.

 Include page numbers.  Include your name at the top of the first page and indicate whether you have chosen A, B, or C below. Type text with a word processor. The following file formats are acceptable: .doc, .docx, .rtf, and .txt.

You must upload your file to the D2L dropbox. I will not accept a hardcopy and I will not accept an e - mail submission.

Choose ONE of the following:

A. Propose a sustainability project.

B. Propose an undergraduate research project.

C. Create a watershed brochure. A.

Sustainability Project  You may choose your own topic, but, if you don’t have any ideas, you could propose a campus clean - up for a class or student organization. Consider checking out ideas at http://mtsu.edu/cee/CEEApplications/spring2016/SCFspring2016.php .

 Your proposal should include a title and the information below: 1 . Project Categories (Select One) Select the category that best describes the project. Energy Conservation/Efficiency Sustainable Design Alternative Fuels Other Renewable Energy 2 2 . Project Description (Completed in as much detail as possible.) a. The scope of the work to be accomplished is a detailed description of project activities.

b. The benefit statement describes the advantages of the project as relates to the selected project category.

c. The location of the project includes the name of the buil ding, department, and/or specific location of where the project will be conducted on campus.

d. List any departments you anticipate to be involved. Were any departments consulted in preparation of this request? Who? A listing may be attached to this form whe n submitted.

e. Provide specific information on anticipated student involvement or benefit.

f. Provide information for anticipated future operating and/or maintenance requirements occurring as a result of the proposed project.

g. Provide any additional comments o r information that may be pertinent to approval of the project funding request.

3. Cost Information a. The project cost estimate is the expected cost of the project to be considered by the committee for approval .

Undergraduate Research Project You can pick your own topic, but here are a couple of ideas:

Are there differences in weathering among gravestones that are less than 75 years old? How do these differences compare with differences among stones which are more than 125 years old?

 Has the size, shape, and rock type of the typical stone changed at Evergreen Cemetery over the last 150 years?

Water Brochure Requirements You will write an informational brochure to educate the citizens of a riverfront city on the impact and dangers of living near a river. All information should be written so a member of the general population could understand it. This means defining all technical language. You will use online resources and any additional resources that you may find to gather your information.

Other Details This brochure should include pictures or illustrations to make the brochure attractive. Also, all information must be factually and scientifically correct (no exaggerations) and written so a member of the general population could understand the entire brochure.
