Considering all the teachers that were nominated for this award, we, as the judges would like to recommend Mrs. Ashland to receive the Golden Apple award. She merits to receive the award because she excels the characters and core values of NAEYC's code of ethics and conduct and the statement of commitment. Below are the reasons as to why she should be the winner of the award.

Mrs. Ashland exhibits;

Confidence in the ability of the children. She spent a lot of time in making and translating newsletters and books for Maya and her family. He was to enable them to learn the English language together. She takes her time to revise the work of Jane which allowed her enough time to participate in the activities that resemble her IEP goals.

She is curious. She showed interest and asks about the place that Maya lived with her parents.

Empathy. She showed compassion towards the parents of Johnny. She goes ahead to find a school literacy program for Johnny.

She demonstrated flexibility and adjusted her program to suit the needs of the children she teaches. Mrs. Ashland expressed respect for diversity in that she created a flash card and pictures so that she can help a child get to know English. She also was keen to understand the culture of her children. This was in line with the NAEYCs ethical responsibilities to children, ideals “I-1.10—to ensure that each child's culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure are recognized and valued in the program." (NAEYC, 2015). She suggested the use of behavior charts to correct the child who was displaying bad behavior in the classroom and at home. NAEYC also suggests that teachers should help family members to understand their children better. This is exactly what Mrs. Ashland was doing by taking a closer look at the behaviors of the children. The staff also assists children in developing their skills. A few of the characteristics of NAEYC that Mrs. Ashland demonstrated include:

Basing her work on the development and learning of children.

Respecting diversity in colleagues, children, and families.

Recognizing and realizing that children are best understood and supported in the family context.

Appreciating childhood as a unique stage in the development of humans.

Appreciated and supported the bond that existed between the child and the parents.
