PART II. Your individual assignment requires the completion of the following:


Each group member should select ONE of the corporate strategic goals identified in the group portion. Your individual assignment requires you to prepare a sample balanced scorecard using all the perspectives.

    1. learning and growth perspective - focus on employees & innovation

    2. internal business processes perspective - what must we excel at internally?

    3. customer perspective - focus on existing and new customers

    4. financial perspective – focus on financial results


You are required to provide the following:

  1. A strategy matrix or chart summarizing your perspectives. You will need to identify the explicit causal relationship between perspectives. You can demonstrate this using a strategy map or other visual device. Provide an explanation.



  1. Development of perspective objectives or desired outcomes:

  • For each perspective, you need to develop one objective that links to the achievement of your selected corporate goal. Objectives are desired outcomes. The progress toward attaining an objective is gauged by one or more measures.



  1. Development of performance measures or metrics:

What Are the Key Indicators That We Need to Monitor?

      1. you will need to determine what is the best assessment tool needed to measure the achievement of each of your objectives. A minimum of one measure per objective is required. Industry research should aid in your selection of key measures as this industry, and this segment within this industry, may utilize some key measures.


  • Measures, or metrics, are the indicators of how a business is performing relative to its strategic objectives. These measures must be SMART:

        1. Specific - aligned to the organization’s objective and strategy

        2. Measurable – quantifiable

        3. Actionable – owned or championed by a group who can impact those measures

        4. Reliable – capable of being trended

        5. Timely – how frequently will the measures be taken?


Key performance indicators should include a blend of leading and lagging indicators

      1. lagging indicators are historical in nature; they are primarily financial measures and are used for reporting purposes

      2. leading indicators allow organizations to take action to influence outcomes; processes can be tweaked along the way

  1. Development of targets for those performance measures:

How Do We Know If We Have Arrived?

      1. you will need to set targets that are realistic and specific to your chosen organization.

  1. Determination of the necessary initiatives that the organization must take:

How Are We Going to Get There?

      1. An initiative will move a measure toward its target value. You will need to describe in detail the initiative that must be put into place to achieve each of the objectives (a minimum one detailed initiative per objective)
