Lesson Title: The Power of Teamwork; In Students and In the Subjects of Mathematics and

Science

Subtitle: Creating a Successful Barrier

Lesson Description:

Students will use skills in their area of expertise to design the perfect barrier that will possibly hold back the sediment.

Student Learning Outcome:

Students will have obtained more in-depth knowledge of calculating and measuring the sediment flow.

Prerequisite Knowledge: Students will already have basic knowledge of:

  1. How to solve basic and new problems.

  2. Basic knowledge of Mathematics.

  3. Basic knowledge of rates/calculations.

  4. Measurements in constructing/building (Engineering).

  5. Using flow rates in solving engineering problems.

  6. The basics of Science and Technology as well.

Course Standards: Use for grades 7-8.

Engineering Connection: The students will have already have read and studied some sort of steps on how to design barriers, how to use flow rates to solve problems, and how to measure/calculate. Also, the students will have some knowledge of the combination of Mathematics and Science.

Lesson Sources: A combination of the classroom Science book and knowledge and skills from Mathematics class (knowledge of measurements and calculations in designing graphics).

Teacher Preparations:

  1. Provide students with the details of the project.

  2. Provide needed materials.

  3. Provide the instructions on preparing and organizing materials.

  4. Divide the students into teams according to their skills and abilities.
